About Me

Blake Amos is a New Orleans native with strong ties to Brasil. Having worked with Carlinhos Brown & Timbalada, co-written/published twice with Ed Motta, Blake has begun to give back to the country that has inspired him so much. Building on funk and soul roots from New Orleans, Blake has thrown samba, bossa nova and rock into the pot. Leaving New Orleans in 2002 when his band Saudade was known as "the samba/rock party to catch", Blake pushed on to spread his sound to New York and beyond. Now in NY the moment is ripe for this seasoned performer who has over the past 15 years played New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival, Festival International de Louisiane and stages from Bangkok, to Los Angeles, Atlanta, Manhattan and Salvador, Bahia – Brazil.
Blake plays the nylon string guitar and sings songs of celebration, soul searching and the challenge of Love. Soul, samba, reggae, rock, drum n’ bass and electronica all meet with craftsmanship and heart in the music offered here.

Influences: Whats the difference between an influence and an inspiration?… right now Amy Winehouse has made some damn good music; now if she could just eat some good food and tour like a grown up. Bjork is visiting us from the next beautiful, twisted planet. Otherwise alot of older( 70’s & 80’s) Brazilian music keeps me beleiving in this addiction called music. People like Djavan, Jorge Benjor, Gilberto Gil, Caetano and Egberto Gismonti gave me a something to work with. Today Seu Jorge is holdin it down.I can’t leave out Itamar Assumpsao...Rest in Peace.
Anyway Zap Mama is another group thats made some real tight shit.
OK OK America ... I’m from New Orleans so lets shout out Kermit Ruffins and John Boutte and JD and the Jammers(live at Benny’s).
Steel Pulse and Black Uhuru. Then go to Fishbone in the 80’s. Classic Isley Brothers with Ernie channeling Jimi over some rugged beats. P-Funk! Pink Floyd. Bilal and Erica Badu.
