About Me

KARMA 's Back On MYSPACE
I was planning to write a more professional autobiography about myself, but I find it rather disturbing because it would be a pity if you only got to know Karma on a professional level and not knowing the personal side that may interest you individuals who take an interest in listening to my songs. So, I decided to write this "MYSPACE" bio with deeper thoughts rather than talking about what is on the surface.
Albert Lin aka Karma was born and mostly raised in Hong Kong since 89’. Music came into my life when I was just learning how to walk. I know many of us may not remember much about when we were little, but I remember very clearly when I first heard music. I was just a little boy and my ma would put her tape on the stereo and there she sang. Her name was "Dung Lei Gwang" and she had a voice no one could forget.
By the time age grew older with me, music was one of the first elements that caught my interest. At the age of six, piano was the first instrument that I had played until the age of 11. On going with the years, I’ve had an attempt at playing the flute, the African drums, the saxophone, and the drums. Music has followed me everywhere, from a bulky CD player back in the 90’s to the newly fashioned IPOD of the 21st Century. By the time I reached in my mid-teens, music consumed 90% of my time and Hip Hop found me.
Since then, I’ve gained knowledge about numerous Hip Hop artists and R&B singers, both commercial as well as underground. After the 8 Mile movie came out and Jin Tha Emcee winning 7 weeks in a row on a programme called Freestyle Friday on 106 in Park, I’ve committed myself in becoming something that involves with music that strikes not only myself, but people around the world. Something that people can relate to and feel to, and better yet, for people who can vibe to. This has shown me that impossibility is nothing. Therefore, I’ve started experimenting with DJ Decks, Bass Guitar, Saxophone, Piano, Music Production, Freestyling, Writing rhymes, Drums, etc. Out of all the selections, nothing got me more excited than rapping.
By a very young age overcoming stage fright, I’ve experimented performing live with my amateur songs in school talent shows, in front of a group of friends, family dinners & gatherings. When I was 16, this was when I knew I could turn my hobby into a profession. To be honest, I am even surprised to this day that my songs posted on MYSPACE and SOUNDCLICK, people showed me love and responded with positive comments. I’ve got nothing but love for ya’ll! This was the time when where a friend, Mistah Khaki aka MC Vibe, brought me into the entertainment scene in Hong Kong, Lan Kwai Fong. This was an eye opener for me since everything seemed so fresh and new and I was up for the challenge. I still remember my first show in a public club venue, called Paparazzi, emceeing as a professional. Since then I’ve done numerous gigs around different venues around Lan Kwai Fong and Tsim Sha Tsui in no time. (Venues such as; Sugar, Paparazzi, Hood, Volar, Dip, Fevar, Pie & Hot)
Around the same time, I was signed under a record company named Think Records in California. However, I am no longer apart of this institution due to educational reasons and decided to focus more on school. However, this experience taught me a lot about the music industry and how it works. During summer 2006, I was a weekly regularly MC at Club Hot in Tsim Sha Tsui and undertook a charity event show with Ivan Wang to help the victims of AIDS and HIV that was broadcasted live on TVB.
These experiences have broadened my knowledge in both aspects of music and business. Not only did it help me improve my performance and social skills but it also enhanced my understanding in the music industry to a greater depth.
Now at the age of 19, Hip Hop has grown with me. Making music is what I love to do and expressing my thoughts and feelings is a talent that myself and other artists are lucky to have. I am confident in my product and I am self-motivated to take on any challenges as I see this as for self-improvement.
Still growing with music and maturing with style, diversity is one of the key elements of Karma. A successful musician requires more than the mastery of an instrument and concentration as a performing artist. It requires a mastery of additional qualities of the human spirit, such as confidence, communication, passion, discipline, courage, and creativity. It is what's inside you, whether in music or in the police service, business or education, that makes great musicians unique and special separate to the others.
To all those I’ve done music with, and especially to those close to me, they have a huge impact and influence in my love for music, my love for Hip Hop. They were the ones who encouraged me to do better and I just wanna give a big shout out to them. (You know who you are)
“I can say that I only do music for the love of it and the sound of it so come and have a little peep if you’re curious what that true music sounds like and I leave you to judge.”
