Dogsday were formed about 12 years ago by the left overs of several bands from the late eighties and early nineties. After the demise of "The Macrame Owls" in 1990, the three remaining members fulfilled contractual obligations to play a party, by forming "Hillbilly Jim and the Vibrant Flemmes" in 1week. They played the gig to a crowd of stunned onlookers. Horrified by what they had created, the band did not reform for several years...... Attempts to reform were thwarted by illness and tragedy, until after a particulary low point, singer Andrew suggested the band, then called "His Master's Noise' go see Dick Dale at the Cental Club. The Fireballs screamed and slapped at them, then Dick assaulted their ears with his full-bore Surf shredding. They were deaf for three days, but "Dogsday" were now headed somewhere. The first surf instrumental "Thruster" was born the next day, even though they couldn't hear what they were playing. Described in the now defunct "Form Guide" as a roots-based band with splashes of surf and spaghetti-western(!), Dogsday released a self funded album titled "A Different Day" in 1997, under their own Red Bus Records label. They haunted Melbourne's smokier venues for several years, supporting such bands as The Shindiggers, Intoxica and the like, until family commitments effectively shut them down. And now they are back!Dogsday are playing gigs around Melbourne with other like minded souls, and, as before guarantee to get your feet-a-tappin and your hips-a-shakin.
