Welcome, my name is Dee and in my NY studio, I create unique works of art using Fused and Dichroic Art Glass.
My work is created by designing, cutting and layering glass and fusing the layers together in kilns at temperatures up to 1550 degrees, sometimes multiple times. When Dichroic glass is added, combining the play of light and the vibrant colors give it visual beauty. My work is kiln annealed (slowly cooled) to give the pieces lasting strength and durability and each piece goes from me to you with joy!
The main characteristic of Dichroic Glass is that it has a transmitted color and a completely different reflective color (di=two, chroic=colors; dichroic=two colors!) Light passing through dichroic glass transmits one color, while light bouncing off dichroic reflects another color. And to make it even more amazing, these two colors shift depending on your angle of viewing. When you combine the play of light with the vibrant colors of dichroic glass, the visual beauty will delight you!
Willow Glass specializes in glass cabochons or "cabs" which are flat-backed pieces without holes or channels. They can be used to create beautiful pieces of jewelry including pendants, bracelets, rings, and earrings. Glass cabs are little droplets of happiness :)
