I am here for Friends

About Me

WHAT IS FEDORA CORE?
Fedora Core is one of the very best Linux distributions. Fedora Core is in sorts a continuation to Red Hat Linux that releases a new version every six months or so.

seeing as how we are all tired of "hot and horny" wants to be your friend just to leave ads on your page. you need a last name to send a friend request with a name like "FEDORA CORE" it shouldn't be that hard to figure out =)

My Interests

FEDORA GUIDE KEY

open a terminal and type (su -) to switch to the root user, root user will be needed for most commands
if you are logged in as root you do not need to use the (su -) command.

the dash (-) at the beginning of steps should not go in the command line (terminal) -------------------------

TO GET A P2P PROGRAM

download frostwire here
download rpm file, click install with default software, this program is very similar to limewire
---------------------
TO SWITCH DESKTOP ENVIRONMENTS

at the login screen there is a "session" button at the bottom, installed by default is gnome, you will also be able to use the "add/remove software" application to get kde, xfce, enlightenment, blackbox,or fluxbox.
--------------------------

INSTALLING BERYL WINDOW MANAGER

-NOTE: you must have a decent video card with video drivers installed to use this program
beryl is mainly just eye-candy for your desktop there is an example in my pictures
-the desktop environment you are using will determine the code used
-su -
-enter root password
if you use gnome -yum -y install beryl-gnome
if you use kde -yum -y install beryl-kde
if you use other -yum -y install beryl
-------------------------

WINDOWS EMULATOR
This is a program that will work quite well with most windows applications and it is free. But this program does not work to well with games. to get it type in terminal
-su -
-enter root password
-yum install wine
---------------------------

WINDOWS GAMES
there is a program out there named cedega but this program is not as open source as it should be. meaning its not free but it does work quite well with most directx 9 games

HOW TO GET FEDORA CORE
If you want the virus free stability of linux at its best download fedora core, Its free.
To download the latest version of fedora 8 Linux go to: http://fedora.redhat.com click torrents or your computers architecture
Use this to decide what architecture you need to download

Macintosh=ppc
64 processor=86_64
Most home computers= x86 or i386

Once downloaded use this link to get imgburn and use it to burn the fedora core iso image(s) to a cd or dvd

{ISO CD'S/DVD'S MUST BE IN THE CD/DVD DRIVE DURING A REBOOT TO FUNCTION}

If you do not have an empty hard drive or a ready partition for Fedora Core, And you are not willing to give up your windows partition, Depending on the size of your hard drive you can resize your Windows partition using partlogic . You need to burn this as an iso image look above if you do not know how to do this. I would recommend using at least 20gb for Fedora 8 or 7gb minimum. BE SURE TO DEFRAGMENT YOUR WINDOW'S PARTITION AHEAD OF TIME.

Once the cd's or dvd is burned, place it in your cd/dvd drive and restart the computer. ( you may have to enter you bios to set cdrom as your first boot and hdd0 as your second boot) the fedora 8 boot screen should load, just press enter to launch. it will soon ask if you want to check the content of the disc, if this is your first time using it i would recommend it.
during installation i would recommend selecting the office and desktop check box, if you do not need server packages installed.

I would also strongly recommend creating a user name and password during the post install, first time boot.

this is the fedora forum link, you will most likely find any question answered here fedoraforum.org
