Band Website: uncarvedblock.co.uk
Band Members: Just me... but it could all change, who knows?
Influences: In no particular order: Natural sounds; lots of traditional Eastern music, especially Ravi Shankar; Tangerine Dream; Can (Flow Motion); Jade Warrior; Philip Glass; Steve Reich; Terry Riley (A Rainbow In Curved Air); Mike Oldfield; Steve Hillage & Miquette Giraudy (Rainbow Dome Musick, Green etc.); Tim Blake (Crystal Machine); Tonto's Expanding Head Band; Jimi; Brian Eno; Robert Fripp; Adrian Belew; Andy Summers; Björk; Tomita; Kitaro; Bo Hansson; my first tape echo unit; echoes in general; phasing; flanging; chorusing; LFO modulation; swept filters (with or without resonance); analogue synthesisers in general; digital synthesisers in general; reverberation; plainsong (which my cat also enjoys very much); drones; bells; a toy glockenspiel I had as a child; a humming-top I had as a child; not always using conventional methods; the harmonic series; an old TV series called "A Little Night Music"; Beethoven; Eric Satie; Ravel; Debussy; harp music; æolian harps; Max Eastley; Iannis Xenakis; Olivier Messiaen; Gong; J. Arthur Rank (just kidding!); Jamaican dub producers; John Martyn (Small Hours); Kate Bush; ancient forests; the Isle of Mull (and a wonderful artist/writer/photographer who lives on it); the night sky; beautiful land/sea/cloudscapes; ancient sites; dreams; sunrises; sunsets; the Electro-Harmonix Micro Synthesizer (an analogue synth for electric guitar); it all being "different when I were a lad" and us having "to make our own entertainment"; the kindness of friends; the kindness of strangers; having a wide range of interests; bio-feedback; guitar feedback; getting good feedback about my music (thanks!); synæsthesia; that'll do for now.
Sounds Like: Sound and music appeal directly to the emotions. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ There is no language barrier involved in the perception of wordless sound. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Urban environments are increasingly hectic and sonically unpleasant. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ With these thoughts in mind, uncarved block tries to make a difference in people's lives by offering them "sonic oases" where they can escape the cacophony. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ uncarved block makes relaxing, immersive sound-environments.
Record Label: Open to offers!
