I always portray myself as a flea, although people don’t get that about me at first… the three main characteristics of a flea are: 1) you’d better be really good to catch it… because it’s tiny, tiny, tiny, it might be in your face but you don’t see it… 2) it gives you something to think about… every flea lives you scratching and wondering about it, it lives you with a mark, a sign but when you tried to see what caused it, well, read no. 1 again… 3) the main reason why the flea doesn’t stay for long is that it’s curious about the world… about what’s out there… all the plants, the animals, the people, great landscapes, great new places… The perfect illustration is the following poem: “Behind every great man/ there sits a rat./ And behind every great rat,/ there’s a flea./ Beside the flea there is an encyclopedia./ Every now and then the flea sneezes, looks up,/ and flies into action, reorganizing history./ The rat says, ‘God, I HATE irony.’/ To which the great man replies,/ ‘Now, now, now, darling, drink your tea.’ “(James Tate. “Little Poem with Argyle Socksâ€)
I'd like to meet:
people who lead their lives without obeying to rules... or people who break the rules and replace them with something else... I don't believe there's a pattern to life (meaning, for example, we live, get married and die)... I believe that anybody has the power to make their own world without listening to others... So, I like people with a vision, people who are not afraid, people who "build bridges where they're not," people who DARE!!! (I DON'T ADD people with PRIVATE PROFILES unless they send me a message and tell me why they would like to be my friend)"Arms and the man. This arm ends in a hand/
Which grasps a neatly, elegantly drawn/
Cock – erect and spurting tiny stars – /
And balls."
(James Merrill. Graffito. Excerpt. 1988.)
Music:
well... this is a long story... to cite a verse from Kasabian "music is my lover" and it is indeed!!! I am obsessed about music, desperate... call me whatever, but it's true! :) I listen to a lot of different genres... it depends on the mood, I guess... BUT I like music that challenges me... I detest pop music, anything else (non-commercial stuff)goes! I love hundreds of bands, especially those who strive to get their message through even if they encounter constant opposition from the world.... My absolute favorite bands in no particular order (by that I mean that I listened to them every day or every other day :)) are...................... COIL, PINK FLOYD, JOY DIVISION, RADIOHEAD, SUEDE... yup! they're all British! So, you might figure out the other bands I listen to... but not quite... for example I'm a huge fan of Joanna Newsom or John Martyn, to name a very few! To wrap it up... music is my number one hobby, and yes! I buy too many CDs... and yes! I read music magazines too (like Uncut, Filter, Under The Radar,Mojo, The Wire, NME etc.) because I love to know the story behing the bands or singers I listen too...and yes! I learn to play guitar :)))Other bands/singers I listen to (I will list only the ones that come first to my mind right now!): LEGENDARY PINK DOTS, SCOTT WALKER, BRIAN ENO, HAROLD BUDD, CURRENT 93, NEW ORDER, NURSE WITH WOUND, ALPHAVILLE, ULTRAVOX, HOLGER CZUKAY, FENNESZ, KULA SHAKER, OASIS, BLUR, PIXIES, INTERPOL, TOR LUNDVALL, NURSE WITH WOUND, KASABIAN, EDITORS, PULP, MANIC STREET PREACHERS, SMASHING PUMPKINS, LUSTMORD, STEVE ROACH, NAZARETH, SILVER APPPLES, SOFT MACHINE, BLACK SABBATH, NIGHTWISH, LACUNA COIL, ARCADE FIRE, STEVE HILLAGE, VELVET UNDERGROUND, NICO, ANTONY AND THE JOHNSONS, THE BLACK ANGELS, SIX ORGANS OF ADMITTANCE, AMEL LARIEUX, STONE ROSES, THE SMITHS, DEVENDRA BANHART, HUSKY RESCUE, DAMON & NAOMI, WOLF EYES, COMETS ON FIRE, MARISSA NADLER, BRIDGET ST JOHN, LINDA PERHACS, VASHTI BUNYAN, WISHBONE ASH, JOHN COLTRANE, GARY MOORE, JOHN LEE HOOKER, JIMI HENDRIX, ESPERS, VETIVER, JAMIROQUAI, ANOUK, INDIA ARIE, JILL SCOTT, DWIGHT ASHLEY, JADE WARRIOR, AUTECHRE, URIAH HEEP, THIN LIZZY, THE SHINS, DUKE SPECIAL, RAY LAMONTAGNE, ARETHA FRANKLIN, DEAD MEADOW, GLADYS KNIGHT, STEVE MARTYN, PLACEBO, THE FALL, DAVID SYLVIAN, THIGHPAULSANDRA, IAN BODDY, TIM HECKER, CYCLOBE, ENTRANCE, THROBBING GRISTLE ETC. ETC. ETC. (the list goes on and on...)
Movies:
not a huge fan of movies... I like mainly the European movies (especially the Spanish, German, and British cinema) that can be labeled as "non-commercial." I don't have a particular director that I like, anyone with a powerful message will do. I don't like movies for their topic, I like them for the particular state of mind they put me when I'm watching them... they might mean nothing in another context in a different moment in time...
Television:
don't watch TV... sorry!

Heroes:
"This is the last year./ There will be no other,/ but heartless nature/ seemingly relents./ Never has a winter sun/ Spilled so much light,/ never have so many flowers/ dared such early bloom./ The air is brilliant, sharp./ Never have I taken/ such long, long breaths." (Robert Friend, '"The Last Year," Dancing with a Tiger: Poems 1941-1998)
