After having spent the better part of 2008 writing and recording in his home studio Scott Bradie is back with ‘The Sawbone Blues.’ This is the fourth release for Scott following ‘Self-Titled’ (2007), ‘Sweeping up the Doldrums’ (2006) and ‘How to Fall’ (2005).
‘The Sawbone Blues’ is a departure from Scott’s last three records as it is completely stripped back to acoustic guitar, vocals and harmonica. There are no overdubs, nor any editing. It is a ‘roots’ record, with early folk, blues and country stylings. Notable influences are Townes Van Zandt, Bob Dylan and the Harry Smith Anthology of American Folk Music.
Scott has attempted to create an album consistent with the folk tradition, whereby 'the song' takes precedence over musicality. Almost the entire content of the album consists of fictional narratives. These narratives unfurl in a variety of scenarios and host complex characters struggling with some form of despondency.
The album title makes reference to the colloquial term ‘sawbones,’ once upon a time applied to doctors/physicians who specialized in amputation. The title track therefore relays the plight of an individual in the process of becoming an amputee (albeit in a somewhat whimsical manner). The content of this song also sheds light upon the illustrations which adorn the back and inside covers.
Scott Bradie has been active on the live circuit for over ten years. He has played notable venues such as The Cornish Arms, Rob Roy and The Brunswick Hotel. He has received airplay both on 3RRR and PBS community radio and participated in contests such as Melbourne Fresh. Scott is currently seeking shows in support of ‘The Sawbone Blues’ and is likewise in search of record label backing/distribution.
'The Sawbone Blues' along with previous albums is available to buy for $10.00 AU on CD by leaving a message at this site or you can pick one up at Missing Link Records, Greville Records, The Last Record Store, Polyester Records and Basement Discs.
