About Me

MORE MUSIC AVAILABLE AT: - www.bryancowell.com

The ripples of energy that radiate and reflect outward all around us take shape in music and words. I try to feel those ripples and let the waves and rhythms of life wash over me, creating beautiful, intricate patterns, first on my mind, then on my music. The main thing is growth, creativity, joy, and healing, which is the general direction that I think most of us would like to be headed. I write about the struggle to overcome the various distractions that can assault us, and the many empty things that can suck away our energy, as well as the bliss of trancending those things. My work is typically quite rough, one-take type of stuff. Up to this point, I've tried to capture the feel of a live performance. At the very least it's honest, even if there are mistakes.I feel that there is a vast torrent of inspiration/spirit/whatever you want to call it waiting to be released, if only we will open up ourselves to it and let go of our desire...our desire to live....to be an individual....to be part of a group....to be............and music is, I feel, perhaps the best, highest, most accurate method for communicating ideas that trancend language. Music can be a tool for guiding both musician and audience into a higher, expanded, mystical state of being. From 2000-2002, I played with a Carson City/Virginia City band called INCOMPLETE ( www.weareincomplete.com ). From 2004-2006, I played guitar in a band called BROKEN SALVATION. You can find them at: www.myspace.com/brokensalvation . Jim, MC, and Danny from Broken Salvation went on to form BLORGALAKT ( www.myspace.com/blorgalakt ), the best goshdarn band in town, and one of my primary influences.Right now I have a variety of projects going, including (but not limited to):A band who, everytime they try to think of a name, it turns out to be taken. We have been know as PURPLE MONKEY DISHWASHER, The ART TEACHER'S OFFICE, and AURAL SEX, all of which are pretty dang clever, if you ask me. We have two myspace pages chock full of music HERE and HERE , with different pages containing different lineups. It consists of Jon Hanneman on drums and myself on guitar/vocals/keyboard, with lots of other good folks joining us at various times. Almost everything we do is improvised, with only a handful of (long) songs. It's lots & lots of fun. There is always the looming danger of a train crash, but the magical moments (where we lose ourselves in the music & become one with everything, in a gushing musical orgasm) are worth the risk. Then there is my solo "Bryan Cowell" project. Right now I'm finishing up the writing of my next....uhhhmm, well I'm not sure if we can call it an "album", but it will be a group of songs which I feel pretty good about. A couple will be re-makes of older songs, with about half of it being new material. I am very excited to have working with me on it such great friends & great musicians. I'll be playing a handful of solo acoustic shows in the local area over the summer.[smokin] SALVIATION began one beautiful spring day in 2007, when I discovered FruityLoops (www.fruityloops.com), which is sequencing program designed to be easy enough to use for even simpletons like myself to be able to make music on. The name refers to the feeling you get while smoking the Salvia Divinorum plant, which is somewhat akin to the feeling you get while listening to [smokin] Salviation.BAGGY PANTS ARMADA , a group of white, drunk, satanic perverts, rapping about the joys of obesophelia. I will neither confirm nor deny my involvment with this group of people. The BACKSTREET BOYS , who I play mouth-harp with every Sunday night, while a turkey roasts over the fire & Ma prepares the vegetables. It's mostly covers of the music of ERICH ZANN (I'll send you a free CD if you know who that is), with candles, incense, and drinking of blood, peppered with the occasional broadway musical, with much drunken singing & dancing by all. It's hard to believe that it's the same group of guys who put out that horrible crap we hear on the radio. And, of course, I am always looking for fellow musicians of all shapes and sizes to aid in the cause.PLEASE NOTE: I do NOT use programs to get friends! At the moment, I don't have anything to sell you, so I can assure you that my intentions are pure. Thank you for coming, I'll try to make it worth your while.
