Rastafari Rhythms Sound System (Melbourne) was established in 1989 by Dirty Harry Selassie, a Rastaman from St Vincent and the Grenadines who came to live in Australia in 1986.“When I first came to Australia, there was no reggae on the airwaves and very few venues you could hear reggae being played. It was one of the major reasons why I left Australia and returned to London. But then i saw the chance to come forward to Australia and change that situation for myself. I knew there was a market for reggae through the people telling me so. That’s when i established a regular radio show on 3CR Community Radio to promote the music and occasionally, I would hold reggae dance parties around town.”Dirty Harry’s reggae radio show, also named Rastafari Rhythms, has earned the status of being the longest running reggae music show in Australia and has educated and entertained an increasing audience in all types of reggae music genres over the last 18 years.Sista Levi joined Dirty Harry Selassie in 2003 as a co-producer and co-presenter of the reggae music show on 3CR. Sista Levi had gone to Arts School in Jamaica in the 1970s and was a member of the Rastafarian organisation, the TWelve Tribes of Israel. A regular monthly reggae dance party was established in 2004.HEAR Rastafari Rhythms every Thursday night on 3CR Community Radio at 11pm till 12:30am (855 AM).
