After receiving her Master of Music in woodwind performance and pedagogy from the University of Southern Mississippi, Mrs. Havard has become an active woodwind instructor and performer in the Hattiesburg. She has served as adjunct woodwind instructor at Mississippi Gulf Coast Community college and at the Petal Harvey Baptist Church Community Arts Program. As a freelance flutist and woodwind doubler, performances have included the Meridian Symphony Orchestra, Hattiesburg Civic Light Opera, Hattiesburg Civic Chorus, Hattiesburg City Band and studio musician. Mrs. Havard has been invited to participate in New Orleans Trinity Episcopal's series Bach Around the Clock, a festival celebrating J.S. Bach's birthday. In her college career, she was the alto flute soloist on the world premiere of Eudora's Fable: The Shoe Bird by Samuel Jones in 2002 and participated in the USM Wind Ensemble's Tour of Italy in 2000. Mrs. Havard was invited back to USM in May of 2005 to perform Berio's Sequenza I for solo flute as part of Integrales 2005 a recital series celebrating contemporary music. Chamber ensembles include The Havard Flute and Guitar Duo with her husband Darrell Havard and Magnolia Winds a flute trio chamber ensemble, performing throughout Mississippi and Louisiana for various events.Current projects include Sonata for amplified Alto Flute and Piano by friend and composer Shane Kelley to be programed in an Alto Flute recital.
