About Me

roman946 plays solo as well as together with the band "fff" – surely not to be confused with the French hip hoppers. We are too unknown to get any problems with our name!
roman946 is Roman Wilhelm. fff is roman946 (Berlin), Thorsten Drössler (Leipzig), Guido Karnstedt (Cologne) and Falk Buchröder (Berlin), who himself is drummer of OctoWallace .
1996 first public concert.
1997 loFi vinyl LP "Im Holz" (self distribution).
1998-2000 collaboration with singer Gida. We had some nice concerts together in boomtown Halle (Saale).
1999 split vinyl LP "Soulfreeze & roman946" (self distribution).
2000 first motion picture soundtrack recording together with fff for the film "Erdbeerfrühling" by Monika Szendzielorz. We played live to a huge projection and somehow became part of the film even without appearing in it personally. CD "Erdbeerfrühling" (produced by the directress).
2002 CD "Wetterbericht" together with fff. These tracks were previously ordered by Szendzielorz for several new film and theatre projects. CD "Wetterbericht" (produced by the directress). Later this year, when I came back from my first half year in China, we did some strange concerts in Halle (Saale) as "Biene Horst".
2005 After a pause due to our study projects, roman946 and Thorsten recorded the music for the animation film "Nebenan" by Thorsten. You can watch the trailer of this film at YouTube , as well as the very beautiful "Making Of" which features a piece from "Wetterbericht".
2006 roman946 and Thorsten recorded the music for Barbara Salamouns animation film "Ist denn die Fliege nicht meine Schwester?", produced in Prague.
2007 roman946 meets Beijings indie scene, the most sympathetic scene ever experienced. Together with Yan Jun (voice, electronics), Wu Quan (voice, electronics), Feng Hao (guitar) and Wei Wei (accordion) he founds the improvisational band "Ma En Lei Si Mao" ("Marx Engels Lenin Stalin Mao") or "MoreLessMore".
2008 finally will be the year of our new album "Fernwärme" with influences from Beijing, Berlin, Cologne and Leipzig! It will be released on vinyl in summer. I also plan two solo releases on CD and for download: "Mingxinpian - Postcards" and "Luobosi - Strips of Kraut". More about it soon!
Legend
In the sixties and early seventies, my grandaunt was musically abused by her father who was leader of an accordion orchestra (yes, things like this do exist) - he forced her to practice 6 hours a day. The result of this: she became accordion world champion (yes, things like that do exist). When I listen to the record they made, I feel ashamed for the abuse of the accordion as instrument in general. In my ears the accordion is a quite user friendly analogue polyphone synthesizer. And: noise!
That´s all.
