About Me
MY name is Charles Beard. I was born on November 27, 1874. I'm about, oh, 133 years old as of now and still going strong keeping up with being the most influential American historian over the past century. I've published hundreds of monographs, textbooks and interpretive studies in both history and political science. As a leader of the "Progressive School" of historiography, I introduced themes of economic self-interest and economic conflict regarding the adoption of the Constitution and the transformations caused by the Civil War. I emphasized the long-term conflict among industrialists in the Northeast, farmers in the Midwest, and planters in the South that I saw as the cause of the Civil War.
