About Me
About Junc Ops
A chance meeting between two Miami-based electronic musicians – PG-13 and Kentsoundz – led to the eventual recording of a glitzy hip hop track (“What Gives?â€). Further meetings yielded exponentially diverse results. Both already leading successful solo careers, the two decided to pool their powers and form Junc Ops - a vehicle for positive, futuristic hip hop music infused with soul.
In late 2006, Junc Ops burst onto the bustling live music scene with a set of songs as punchy as the jackhammers that constantly beat the Miami pavement. Strong performances allowed Junc Ops to play alongside national artists such as Daedalus and Otto Von Schirach. Eventually, the group was featured in The New Times, Miami's leading independent Arts and Entertainment publication and PG-13 was named Best Electronic Artist in the 2007 “Best Of†roundup.
Their new album, 2013, is a collection of sonic South Florida snapshots, ranging from the grimy gutters and back alleys of North Miami, to the heavily tanned, plasticity of Miami Beach, to the slick suburban sprawl of Kendall and beyond. Fusing PG-13's personal, hard-hitting rhymes with Kentsoundz’ gritty and emotive productions, 2013 will be released Feb. 21, 2008 via Circuitree Records. A single for the title track, featuring remixes by prominent electronic musicians, will be released mid-year.
With standout, anthemic tracks like "2013," look for Junc Ops to be a major player in the hip-hop and electronic music landscape for years to come. Not nu-school, not old-school - their sound is NOW-school.
Junc Ops’ set of influences include, Madvillain, Dangerdoom, Deltron, Public Enemy, Run DMC, A Tribe Called Quest, De La Soul, Missy Elliott and Timbaland, Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five, Four Tet, Prefuse 73 and Aesop Rock and all other hip hop and electronic acts that have elevated the art form.
