About Me

Kenny Silva was born March 1st, 1984 in Waterbury, CT. A 1st generation American, born to two Portuguese immigrants, Kenny had a strong sense of appreciation and respect for his parents’ decision to raise a family in the United States. Following the terrorist attacks of 9/11 and an overwhelming desire to protect and defend his country, Kenny enlisted in U.S. Air Force. As a radar technician, Kenny earned numerous awards and citations for outstanding technical knowledge and job performance. However, the dry, technical aspect of his every day life left him unfulfilled. At the age of 19, seeking a more spiritual outlet, he picked up the guitar. Inspired by the amazingly soulful guitar playing on Eric Clapton’s From the Cradle album, Kenny spent his free time learning every lick he heard. In no time, local musicians were impressed this young guitarists’ aptitude for the instrument and expressive style. Within months, Kenny was turning heads and gaining listeners across Southern Idaho. With his service commitment nearing a close, Kenny decided to leave the Air Force and pursue his newfound passion. With the guidance of a few local guitar teachers and performers, Kenny enrolled in Berklee College of Music. At Berklee, with the inspiration of a good friend and neighbor, Kenny fell in love with country music. He found himself relentlessly studying the amazing licks of giants such as Brent Mason, Brad Paisley, Roy Nichols, Don Rich, and Jerry Reed. After being exposed to local legends Duke Levine and Kevin Barry, Kenny realized that to truly grow as the kind of guitarist he wanted to be, he needed to find a teacher well versed in the roots music he loved so much. For this reason, Kenny began studying under Kevin and began to progress well beyond anything he had ever expected. Sadly, tragedy struck Kenny after his first semester of school. Due to sudden illness, he lost his father, a young man of only 49 years and otherwise perfect health. Devastated by the loss, Kenny swore to himself that he would never give up his dreams and would never stop working to achieve them. Driven by a rock-solid work ethic and never-ending determination, Kenny continues to progress as a musician with each passing day. You can find Kenny playing live shows and doing studio work around New England for talented artists such as Jenn Bostic, Greg Burroughs, and Evelyn Brown. Born in the Blues, influenced by Rock, and forever in-grained with Country, Kenny hopes to take his unique guitar style to the next level in Nashville in early 2009.
