Born in Cuernavaca, Morelos, Mexico, Eddie Stacks, born Eduardo Armendariz-Aghion, was quickly introduced to different cultures at a very young age. He lived in London, England, for almost eleven years, after which he moved over to Boston, Massachusetts, with his family, which is when he truly started falling in love with H.E.R. "It was like, I couldn’t hold it in, wherever I went, I just thought about my music, about lyrics. My notebooks in school were filled with more rhymes than math notes". In 2006, he met and did a collab with J-Smooth. J-Smooth soon after took Stacks under his wing and signed him to his independent music label Smooth Records. In late July of 2007, Stacks decided to go solo. However, in March 2008, E.S. was put back on the artist roster on Smooth Records.
