Classics and b-grade horrors are my first choice in movies such as The Convent, The Crawling Eye or anything by Hitchcock. Although there is the occasional not horror flick that catches my attention, like French Kiss or Serenity

Don't watch too much current tv, although I do enjoy Monk, Bones and 24. I also was recently introduced to Lost but I only get to see the "older" seasons that are on DVD. I enjoyed The Dresden Files and Dexter. Mythbusters is always fun, as is Dirty Jobs and How It's Made. Whatever might catch my attention on Animal Planet, Discovery or the Documentary channel. Occasionally I'll watch Firefly, Buffy or Angel.
I enjoy reading almost anything, from pulp horror to trashy romance to classics and poetry. I enjoy less the things that read like a text book, and more the things that have vivid character development. Lois McMaster Bujold is one of my favorite authors. Laurell Hamilton's Anita Blake Vampire Hunter is good, so is her Merry Gentry series - but be forewarned if you begin reading these, Anita starts as stand alone stories but evolves into a serial and Merry is simply a serial, don't expect a complete story but just a piece of the bigger plot. Diana Gabaldon's Outlander, Dragonfly in Amber, etc. I cannot forget Elizabeth Peter's Amelia Peabody books, by far the ones I recommend the most. And of course, William Goldman's The Princess Bride.
One more to add to the list, Katie MacAlister. I've recently read a couple of her books and I must say they're vivid and spunky and I read You Slay Me and Fire Me Up in one day each.
I've been reading Kathy Reichs Tempe Brennen novels, though honestly, I haven't decided what I think of them yet. Robert Crais's Elvis Cole novels are most definitely worth the read.
And of course that new firecracker author, Patrick Rothfuss
