About Me

Hello there. My name is Sally Bell. I am a 46-year-old songwriter with Alabama roots. Born and raised in Birmingham, Alabama, I graduated from the Alabama School of Fine Arts majoring in classical guitar--years ago. I have been in Kansas for the past 25 years raising my family.
My husband of almost 20 years died a few years ago and my son and daughter are older now, so I just recently decided to get back into songwriting. Music has always been a passion of mine so I've never stayed away from it for too long.
I am a closet musician and rarely play outside of my bedroom. I do an acoustic show and am featured in my bedroom, regularly. No audience really--just me, in the mirror, with the occasional pet.
I do go out for open mike nights in Kansas City every now and then, and I love to go to musician friend’s parties (those can be fun!) I like the parties where we all play instruments and sing outside, around campfires. There is absolutely nothing like singing and playing along with guitars, fiddles and a stand up base—out in the middle of nowhere!
I love going to the recording studio to record my original stuff. When I arrive there, my song is only a thought in my head and a feeling in my heart. But, when I leave, I have a CD with my song on it. It becomes a tangible thing. I like that.
I sing all of the vocals and play the guitar for all of the recordings of my original music.
Anybody in Kansas City with strong vocals who plays an instrument and wants to start working up a duo or trio to play around town together, drop me a line. I love singing harmony with other people! I would really like to play some stuff from the seventy’s and eighty’s –everything from classic rock to Peter, Paul and Mary and the Beatles. I feel sure we could get some paying gigs—just for the fun of it!
I would die a happy woman if only someone famous would decide to record one of my songs! Just let me know—Anytime---I’ll be here… waiting patiently!

Influences:

I grew up listening to Aretha Franklin, Barbara Streisand, Ray Charles and Johnny Mathis singing on my mom's stereo, every Saturday while we cleaned the house. She also played a lot of black gospel music. We all sang along.

(It was the 1960's and 1970's)

As I got a little older, I started to enjoy groups and singers like: The Eagles, James Taylor, Jim Croche, Emmylou Harris, Jackson Browne, John Prine, Dan Fogelberg, CCR, Beatles, Jimmy Buffett, The Doobie Brothers, Eric Clapton, Grand Funk Railroad, Three Dog Night, Joe Cocker, John Fogerty, Kenny Loggins, Led Zeplin, Lynard Skynard, and I could go on and on!

I have a strong classical background through family and studies at the Alabama School of Fine Arts.
