About Me
The Cherry Boppers started their musical journey in
early 2004 with a collective enthusiasm and fascination
into the origins of the Jazz-funk scene of the late 60’s
early 70’s. These foundations gave rise to the Bilbaino
quintet known as the Cherry Boppers, comprised of
Xixo Yantani (guitar, vocals), Txefo k-billy (drums),
Lando Stone (bass, vocals), Mihail goldfingers (saxo
phone, flute) and Ignatius Jhonny (Hammond organ,
vocals)
In July 2006 they released their first album entitled
‘dressin’ the puppet’ produced on Bilbao’s own ‘Noiz
pop’ label. The album itself is 100% pure funk with a
groove so smooth that dancing is inevitable. It also
pays homage, through interpretations and covers
versions, to the late great maestros of this generation;
Lou Donaldson, Reuben Wilson, Lonnie Smith, Ma
ceo Parker, Grant Green and James Brown, the latter
without which a Jazz-Funk album is incomplete. With
the album hot off the press, the Cherry Boppers hit the
road in autumn 2006 to bring their music to the people.
A new year, a new recording and in early 2007 they
returned to the studios to record their first double-sided
7†ep, Black Lolita (side A) and Watermelon man (side
B).
For this they recruited Mihail Goldfinger who replaced
previous saxophonist, Bob Philips Rivas. This clas
sic 7†vinyl recording captures the pure raw energy
that they deliver time and again throughout their live
performances. In summer of 2007 after introducing the new tunes all
around Spain in a second tour in spring (Black Lolita
Tour 2007) the band performed at San Sebastian..s
43th Jazz festival, opening for SLY & THE FAMILY
STONE. They also performed in international festivals
as Ryhtmesenluz in france and Theatron Festival in
Munich, Germany.
For the spring of 2008 they will be releasing their
second LP... just a secret for the moment...
Catch them live, feel the groove and funk it up.
