Major BrandishGladstone A Brown was born on March 22, 1975. He is the fourth of fivechildren, with three sisters and one brother. He grew up in the Rockfortcommunity (Wareika Hill). He attended Windward road All age school andthen Papine Secondary He was also a member of the track and field team .His career choice at the time was Auto Mechanic. Unfortunately his studiesended prematurely as he had to get a job to help himself and his parents.His first job was in a supermarket but he was still struggling financially. Hewanted to attend an evening school to do some CXC subjects but workingin a supermarket did not make it possible.While at home for about a month without a job, He began listening todancehall music: the likes of Shabba Ranks, Capleton, Papa San, Ninja manand Mad Cobra. He was inspired to write his first song. While writing thesong, He was always by himself, listening to the rhythm and singing his ownsong in his mind but only moving his lips. His mother approached him oneday and asked him if he was getting mad. Apparently she had beenobserving him talking to himself for a while. Gladstone paid her no attentionbecause he thought she would not understand.In 1996, Gladstone was encouraged to enter the Tastee Talent contest whichhe did his song called ..cha cha cha cha... The song had a dance whichaccompanied it. He got a certificate for outstanding performance but hedidn..t make it to the semi finals. The judges commented that he wasovershadowed by his dancers. They wanted the focus to be on him and nothis dancers.Early 1998, the hard task began, because Gladstone was once againunemployed and determined to make it in business, He began to wonder ifhe was doing the right thing. When he look back on the shows He..ve doneand the response form the public, he was convinced he was in the rightarea. So he began recording some of his songs on cassettes so thatproducers and promoters could hear the type of songs and the quality ofmusic he created. He became affiliated with Supreme Promotions and wasgiven the chance to perform at Sting in 1999.A friend of his drove up to him one day and asked ,him if he had anycassettes with his tunes on it. He said he would like someone to listen to it.He introduced Gladstone to Jacqueline Waite, an English based promoter.She listened to his songs on the spot in her car. She was impressed withwhat she heard . She then told him about a show in Gambia that hercompany was promoting and informed him that she would like him to be anartiste on the tour.In March 2000, he went on a three weeks tour throughout England andGambia, where he did several shows and interviews. That was the biggestturn his career had taken. He returned to Jamaica in April 2000 and herecorded a song called ..Zum.., ..Blaze.. and ..Pop Yu Kalla.. on the Malaikalabel.To date he have performed on Sting 1999,Sting 2000, Tastee Talentcontest, Veteran in action, Blue Hole Fest, Sugar Minott..s Birthday Bash,Solidarity 2000, Return of De Gorgon (Ninja Man) and countless other talentshows in Jamaica.For the next two (2) years his music career took a backseat as he focus onbuilding his home. In October 2004, he became a part of the manyJamaicans who went to Cayman to engage in the rebuilding efforts after thiscountry was ravaged by Hurricane Ivan.
