It used to be sex, drugs and rock 'n roll, but I'm getting old. Now it's just sex and rock 'n roll. Hopefully getting a little wiser.
I met Wayne Coyne not too long ago, at Lowe's of all places. I was a blathering idiot and amazed at his patient grace in meeting an obvious fan. I'd like to meet Bono, Thom Yorke, Chan Marshall. I'd like to meet several authors, including Stephen Hawking, Patricia Cornwell, J.K. Rowling, John Camp and Chuck Palahniuk. If death weren't a barrier, I'd like to meet H.P. Lovecraft, Stephen J. Gould, Phillip K. Dick, William S. Burroughs, Edgar Allen Poe, Hunter S. Thompson, and C.S. Lewis. Of course Tolkien and Frank Herbert would be awesome. And Alfred Hitchcock.
Radiohead. Currently digging Scanners, Raising the Fawn, Metric and several other obscure bands who rarely if ever come near Oklahoma. I'll always have a soft spot for Nina Simone, Buffalo Tom, Luna, Pixies, The Smiths, old REM and Jane's Addiction, and many more. I love music, though not too keen on country or rap, especially the commercial drivel. But give me some Whiskeytown or MIA and I'm all good. Also love Modest Mouse and Kings of Leon.
Love film- everything from goofy, i.e. Army of Darkness, Shaolin Soccer, Kung Fu Hustle, to much more serious fare like Requiem for a Dream and American History X. Dig the Japanese horror and old Hitchcock. Dig the fantasy and scifi, although it seems that there's no middle ground in those genres- it's either exemplary or total shite. Current faves include The Departed, Stranger than Fiction, The Illusionist and The Prestige.
Most is crap, though it seems almost every show on HBO is bad ass. I loved the X Files. I once heard someone say, in regard to that show, 'don't give me everything tied up in a nice little package at the end, and I'm happy'. Totally agree. I am the Lost junkie. Also like Heroes.
I like the forensic psychology murder mystery thriller. I dig the Harry Potter. The Deathly Hallows is a masterpiece, and ties the whole series into one glorious knot. No Shit. Currently digging Patricia Cornwell, John Sandford and Chuck Palahniuk.
Most are dead or fictional. I'm always for the underdog, making it through untold hardship to reach glory. And normal people rising to the occasion under extraordinary circumstances.
