Dystrophy

The band forms in October 2003 when Chiara (Nancy Ripper – guitar) and Sabrina (Sidney Doom – guitar&vocals), realized they shared a strong passion for music. They soon decide to start up a band in which a friend of Sabrina, Tatiana (Katiuscia Krov), joins in as bassist. Bands that have influenced Dystrophy from the very beginning have been: The Misfits, Samhain, The Cramps and even The Adicts, Rancid and The Cure, creating a horror-punk genre with gothic influences, but also with the energy of pure punk rock. After the brief period with Katiuscia Krov on bass, during the summer of 2003, Rosaria (Ira Mors) takes up on that roll. The intentions of the band become more and more serious each time and with this started the long search for a drummer. After a short while Rosaria too leaves the band only to be replaced by Fredo (Sabrina’s brother and bass&vocals of The Asphixiated) who was already the author of the bass parts in Dystrophy’s songs anyways. The three are great together and since luck for a drummer was yet to be seen, they dedicate most of they’re time coming up with new material for the band. Two years later, during fall 2006, it would seem as though the band found a drummer; Antonio, who was fine with recording a demo but not okay with playing any shows… so yeah… he didn’t last too long in the band either. In the beginning of 2007, though, the band finally finds a serious drummer Gabriele (murderNroll - drummer of The Crips) who gets along great with the others and is inspired by the same music as well. With this, Dystrophy goes live and records they’re first LP “Invitation to a Dark Sleep”. After all these years Alfredo and Sabrina return to Montreal, their hometown which forces the band to take a break ‘till they all meet again one day and… DESTROY!!muahahaha!!

La band si è formata nell'ottobre del 2003 quando Chiara (Nancy Ripper-chitarra) e Sabrina (Sidney Doom-chitarra&voce), conosciutesi da poco ma legate da una grande passione per la musica, hanno deciso di mettere su un gruppo, al quale si unisce presto come bassista Tatiana (katiuscia Krov), un amica di Sabrina. I gruppi da cui i Dystrophy hanno sin dall'inizio tratto ispirazione sono Misfits, Samhain, Cramps ma anche Adicts, Rancid, Cure, risultando così una miscela di horror-punk con influenze gotiche ma anche con l'energia del punk-rock più puro. Dopo la breve esperienza con Katiuscia Krov al basso, nell'estate del 2003 entrò a far parte del gruppo in quel ruolo Rosaria (Ira Mors); le intenzioni del gruppo diventarono sempre più serie e iniziò l'ardua ricerca di un batterista che ha avuto un esito positivo solo tre anni dopo. Anche Rosaria lascia il gruppo dopo poco tempo, ma Fredo (fratello di Sabrina e già cantante e bassista negli Asphixiated), che comunque era autore delle parti di basso dei pezzi dei Dystrophy, decide di entrare a far parte del gruppo. I tre si trovano molto bene insieme, e non trovando ancora un batterista dedicano molto tempo alla composizione di nuovi brani. Dopo due anni, nell autunno del 2006, il gruppo sembra aver trovato un batterista, Antonio, disposto a registrare un demo ma contrario a suonare dal vivo; neanche lui ebbe lunga vita nel gruppo. Agli inizi del 2007 però fortunatamente il gruppo trova un batterista serio, Gabriele(già batterista nei Crips) che va subito d'accordo con gli altri e con le influenze del gruppo. I Dystrophy con questa formazione si esibiscono dal vivo e registrano il primo LP "Invitation to a dark sleep" raccogliendo così molti consensi dalla scena punk campana e non. Con il ritorno di Alfredo e Sabrina in Canada, la loro patria, il gruppo sarà costretto ad una pausa con il fermo proposito di riavviare al più presto la propria attività artistica.
