How many times do I have to say I deny Friend Requests without a message?

About Me

I tend to downplay my own successes and I have become an expert at deflecting praise. I went to school for over 4 years to get a degree in (change subject, bored now). Then I dropped out before graduating to go into computers to make money for my soon-arriving son. I now have 2 sons that I love more than anything in the world. I've job-hopped my way into a great job with a group of people that I love to be around, there is almost no politics in my little work group and I can't ask for anything else.
I work out to have a way to get rid of excess energy, then I save up energy by sitting in front of my laptop all day and fixing bad programming and other broken computer stuff. I hate talking about my work, even to my coworkers, because computer work, while exciting in that there is always something new for me to learn or a never-before-seen puzzle to figure out, is terribly boring conversation. As an example, I had a 2 hour conversation the other day about the importance of good Quality Assurance.
Also, I hate that I use emoticons. I even hate that word. But with so much of my work conversations being over IM, I am forced to adopt that which I despise...
Every now and then I pick up one of my old books to have something interesting to read that's not perl programming, certificate management, or database interfaces. Currently I'm listening to the audiobook of the Dark Tower 3, even tho I've already read the thing. I'm very socially liberal (women's rights are a big thing for me, and I'd love some universal health care), I crack my knuckles all the time, and I wear pants (actually jeans) every day of the year. My sense of humor is genetic - my son tells the same bad jokes that I do, which my father told before me, and that I remember his father telling. I try to keep my professional facade up (my hair is cut short, all present and future tattoos and body piercings are all under clothes) and I'm done running around naked at parties. I'm colorblind. I think that's enough for the lecture part of my About Me, I will now answer any direct questions not written in Caps Lock.
Oh, and Joss Whedon is a god.

Playing with my sons, be it outside, swimming, or video games. Sleeping is something I like a lot these days, probably because I can't have it. Watching my tv shows, reading. Wasting time on the internet, wikipedia and myspace take up more time than I like to admit to. I work out whenever I can, since I passed 30 and I don't have my youthful metabolism to keep me skinny anymore, but it's not as much as I'd like. I have to say I didn't realize what I hard gig being a single parent was, and I have tons of respect for those who've been doing it well for a while.

I'd like to meet:

I will deny any request from a band or comedian. I will pick the bands that I want, and I'm not friending any comedian other than Brian Posehn. And get this: I don't want to just add to your number of friends, and I'll consider no friend request without a message sent alongside it. If it's an intelligent message, I'll have no problem friending you - I'm looking for intelligent people here.. But I don't care about being your 9,999th friend, and I'm not looking for anybody to 'hang out' with. I know in some way all of my friends, or they're bands/comedians/whoever that I respect. If you send me a request anyway you didn't look through my profile and I'll just deny your request.

As an exception, if you already know me in real life, you can just request to be added. You get a free pass - you can be dumb as a rock and I'll still add you ;).

And hot chicks that put their boobs up front of their main profile picture are always welcome. {/sarcasm}

Music:

Lots of different stuff that was mostly popular throughout the 80s, but not Bon Jovi and their ilk so much. Morrissey/The Smiths, Peter Murphy, The Cure, Depeche Mode, NIN (ok, that's 90's, sue me :-P), Duran Duran, Jane's Addiction, Sisters of Mercy, etc. I'm really into strong female singers, Sinead O'Connor, Sarah M, Stevie Nicks, Tori Amos. Round it out with the odds and ends, Peter Gabriel (Passion soundtrack from the Last Tempation movie), everybody needs to have heard the amazing creepy soundtrack of the movie Ravenous(serious!), Tool, Nirvana, old Pearl Jam, Prodigy, Fat Boy Slim, Dead Can Dance, Sia "Breathe Me";). Been training my boys on good music, they can sing along to "Play that Funky Music", "Carry on my Wayward Son", "Peekaboo", Ohgr "Water", Stromkern "Stand Up", "Le Disko", "DARE", and a few Tears for Fears selections, in addition to other songs. I'll add more as I think of them.

Movies:

Serenity, 'cause it's an amazing movie, as anything directed by Joss Whedon would be, and I love Love LOVE Firefly. I saw I Heart Huckabees, and everybody should see it. Crazy funky funny crazy. Old Quentin Tarantino movies, big spectacular movies (LotR, Star Wars 2 & 4-6, Harry Potter's) that don't treat the audience like the kiddies on TRL (like Armageddon did). I saw Primer, and I liked it, I think, if I can be sure of anything after finishing that mother up. Been watching a plethora of movies lately, just finished Citizen Kane, 300, King of New York, and the original 3 Living Dead movies. Dude Where's My Car was way better than it should have been. I can't believe I almost forgot to list Dangerous Liaisons! I liked the song during the credits of Dickie Roberts, Former Child Star (it almost makes it worth suffering thru the rest of the movie). Date Movie made me cry for Willow. Poor Willow...

Television:

First thing's first: everybody, I mean EVERYBODY, needs to watch How I Met Your Mother.
That being said, TV is becoming too much a part of my life. There are a TON of great shows out there that have great, challenging writing, that I don't feel right not continuing to watch. Good shows that are gone: Buffy, Angel, and Firefly are 3 of the best-written shows around, Wonderfalls, Sex and the City, My Big Fat Obnoxious Fiancee, Boy Meets Boy, Breaking Bonaduce, Arrested Development. I watched every episode of Six Feet Under from the beginning, and I loved all the characters, so the last episode still gets me all choked up (I'm such a girl) (and Sia's Breathe Me being the song running thru the ending doesn't hurt it, either). Deadwood, Rome, and Sopranos were amazing. The new Battlestar Galactica is very good, as is the remaining Stargate (I'm such a nerd). Smallville is survivable. I've given up reality TV, after being addicted to Survivor, the Apprentice, and American Idol. Thanks to my son, Drake and Josh, Billy and Mandy, Foster's HFIM, Ned's Survival Guide are regulars on my Tivo, that I can at least stand to watch. I can't miss an episode of Dexter, the Heroes finale was disappointing so I'll give the new season a chance, and I'm way behind on Lost. Just to let the entire world know: a DVR is a necessity. Oh, and Joss Whedon is a god. God. God.

Books:

Always been a big Stephen King fan, and a big sci-fi fan (when I was much younger, like over 15 years ago, I read tons of Asimov and TONS of Piers Anthony, to start it off). Loved all the Harry Potter books, the Lord of the Rings books, Hemingway is my favorite link back to when I was an English major, and I just reread The Postman by David Brin (yes, the horrible movie was based on that. The book was great, the movie was not). I need to get another copy of A Canticle for Liebowitz by Miller. Aldous Huxley. In my spare time (?) I read books about tai chi, buddhism and meditation. I've also been listening to audiobooks lately. Harry Potter and the Dark Tower were good, but if you want to hear a really good audiobook, pick up any of the Dresden Files by James Marsters.
