Warriors from the EastWarriors from the East are an acoustic band based in Arusha, Tanzania. Our style of music is Afro fusion - a mixture of Traditional African music, reggae, blues, soul and rock. We combine acoustic guitars with a range of African percussion and modern western instruments such as electric guitars, keyboard, saxophone, trumpet and drum set.Warriors from the East, is a band on a mission! That mission is to use music as a powerful positive weapon to spread the message of peace, love and unity in the world. We are ambassadors of African Community and Culture and we promote its unity in our lyrics and melodies. After 6 years of working together, singing together, praying and meditating together, this band of warriors for peace is spreading and thriving to promote a positive, spiritually aware lifestyle, far and wide…from East Africa to the rest of Africa, the UK, Europe, United States and beyond!The Warriors From The East band was formed in early 2004 through the efforts of prominent East African musician, Lwanda Magere. Magere, a trained optometrist, is also a composer, historian and writer. Warriors from the East movement has been instrumental in supporting local musical talent through regular interaction with youth projects, primary schools and orphanages where we teach music and creative arts arts.Warriors from the East have collaborated with international artists such as Dead Prez, Good News Sisters, Kate Evans, Ja Son all from The United States, Clockwise from Sweden and Control Tower Sound System from France. We performed at Zanzibar International Film Festival (ZIFF) in 2009, participated in the inaugural Arusha International Cultural Diversity Festival (2009) and Oktoberfest, Moshi in 2008.The band performs monthly at venues around Arusha and Moshi in Northern Tanzania (Via Via, Empire Sports Bar, Glacier Inn) and with support from Alliance Francais East Africa, have been able to play at various venues around East Africa. Harnessing our wide network of contacts, in coming months we hope to launch our albums by playing at venues in Dar Es Salaam, Kampala, Nairobi, Kigali and Bujumbura. We have also had enquiries to play in Malawi, Zambia, Zimbabwe and South Africa.It is our future aim to continue supporting local young talent and spread our message of peace, love and unity through music, education and creativity.
