THIS BAND BLOWS MINDS

About Me

NEW CD AVAILABLE ON ITUNES
Led by Synth Wizard Neil Alexander (The Machine, Mahavishnu Project), Neil Alexander & NAIL continues a commitment to the future of Jazz and improvised music. The ensemble comprises a tight unit with a diverse stylistic palette skillfully blending modern and traditional forms with experimental concepts and electronic music. Recorded live in the studio, their new CD "TUGGING AT THE INFINITE" is a musical tour de force illustrating the group’s tremendous versatility and sweeping dynamics. You can hear clips at their official site Nailmusic.com . NAIL takes the listener on a sonic journey that features phenomenal keyboard work that at moments can rival any Hendrix style guitar. They have opened for artists like John Scofield and performed at festivals and clubs including the Blue Note in NY. True lovers of jazz, improvisation and an exhilarating sensory experience seek them out, knowing they will shatter boundaries and test limits. And they groove like HELL......
About Neil Alexander:
Primarily self-taught, Neil Alexander was performing, composing and arranging by age 13. In 2004 with his contemporary electric jazz ensemble NAIL he released Galvanized, his 4th CD as a bandleader. He does session work as both player and programmer, and has composed more than 100 works for small ensembles of various instrumentation. He has received grants from meet the composer and the NYS Council for the Arts; performed 20th Century works by Stravinsky, Cage, and others; taught music clinics at both high school and college level in modern music technologies; produced concerts in both small venues and large outdoor settings; and done sound design and music concrete (including assembling sound effect libraries and live tape manipulation). He has composed for independent films and/or been musical director for Modern Dance and Alternative Theater companies and toured for ten years with the notoriously successful Pink Floyd Tribute "The Machine" . Neil is also currently a member of the "Mahavishunu Project" , a band performing music from John McLaughlin's original ground breaking groups. In addition, Neil performs solo acoustically and/or electronically. He and his wife Nita Rae operate a small recording studio in upstate NY and maintain a private recording company, Pdog Records.
