The WORD is the beginning...

About Me

Arlene is the owner and operator of Captive Thoughts Productions, llc for which she serves as writer, producer and director. To date, Arlene's credits include her first short, The Reunion, a thriller, which premiered in the DC International Film Festival; Perspective, a silent, experimental film, created for the Film2Music competition and available here for your viewing (please note the music begins AFTER the opening credits); Community Means Family, a public service announcement to promote volunteerism; Hell on Wheels, an abbreviated tv pilot pitch initially presented in the FOX Myspace Storyteller Challenge; and Terminal, which premiered in Pensacola, FL and Arlene served as its Assistant Director and Unit Production Manager.Arlene's second short, Perspective, may best explain her heart and passion, but she has feature films in various stages of production, including "The Stalker Within," a thriller; a biopic on a great American FEMALE HERO; and other comedy, drama and action adventure storylines.A Maryland native, Arlene's writing career began at the age of eight with the production of her original myth as a play. A love of words and expressive style sparked audience appreciation and interest, which continues today. Her talent and passion for writing and storytelling, in particular, empowered Arlene to win cases in the courtroom, on brief and through argument; help 9/11 victims rebuild by facilitating listening workshops; deliver and design international training in conflict management; and to engage others to tell their stories to resolve conflict to promote peace-internal and external. As an avid collector of quotes, reader and writer, Arlene uses the power of the pen and the strength of a "hired gun" to deliver well-written, witty, and intelligent pieces to improve the human condition.

My Interests

Varied

I'd like to meet:

"; I edited my profile at Community Means Family
..I directed this project to be a community service public service announcement, entitled Community Means Family, in 2007 with co-writer, co-producer, cinematographer and editor James E. Cheek. The "actors" are random persons, with the exception of James’ children, asked the impromptu question of: 1. What Does Community Mean to You? The project was part of an Allstate Filmmaker’s 90 seconds or Less Challenge focused upon service in the African-American Community. It is an example of fresh, honest everyday storytelling. As for the question, I’d like to meet artists interested in sharing stories that inspire and improve the human condition. My storytelling interests cross genres. For me, storytelling extends beyond the visual mediums captured on the page, stage, screen, and canvas to include sound, spoken word, lyrics and music.

From the first time I heard the song, "Amazing Grace," I fell in love with it. I was a child--maybe about nine and in Catholic School Mass. I remember singing it at the top of my lungs as it seemed so...

Getting the Record Straight: Obama and Clinton

I think my rear end is still attached, but I nearly laughed it off when I heard Geraldine Ferraro’s comment that Obama is where he is because of his race. Before I check to make sure that I stil...

Dust in the Wind

I awoke this morning thinking about the old Kansas song, "Dust in the Wind." I love the song because of its simplicity and the violin. My favorite instruments, beyond the human voice, are the violin a...
