About Me

I'm a Ph.D. candidate, currently in Japan on a Fulbright grant conducting my dissertation research. Wish me luck!

I also have weird hair...I can't figure out what to do with it. Observe:

Ok, some pictures from Japan. I took these with my cell phone, so they aren't great...

Television:

Unfortunately I love television. I'm in Japan right now, so I'm not terribly up on American TV, but I have been watching Heroes...and I'm starting to watch 24, which was on TV here. Japanese TV is always a trip. Plus they show some of the worst American movies on TV here, always fun.

Books:

I'm a voracious reader, and I'll read almost anything. I also read books over and over because I get something new out of them every time. Here is just a sampling of what's on my mind right now:Robin McKinnley, "The Hero and the Crown" and "The Blue Sword"anything by Anne McCaffreya book called "The Darkling Hill" or something like that...I read it a really long time ago, and spent 10 years trying to remember what it was called so I could read it again. I finally found it on abebooks.com and read it again (it was still good!) but it's on a different continent right now, so I can't check the title!"The Clan of the Cave Bear", "The Valley of the Horses" and "The Mammoth Hunters" by Jean M. Auel...the rest of the series must be read because it's a continuation, but it's certainly not as good as the first three."Geek Love", which is a really really disturbing book that has stayed with me for years!"Der Richter und Sein Hanker" by Durrenmaat...the story was great, but mainly it was the first full book I ever read in a foreign language.Melanie Rawn, The Dragon Prince and Dragon Star trilogies. The Harry Potter books, always entertaining. The books are far superior to the movies, but I find that to be the case most of the time.Oh, and I read an interesting book called "Middlesex"...I recommend it highly.
