Always a work in progress...

About Me

Started playing the violin at 4. I was trained classically, but at the SC Governor's School for the Arts, I was told that I would "never be a baroque violinist". I always "composed" on the classics, and you just can't do that, folks. Take it from my decrepit old bitty of a teacher. I infuriated her by changing things I, personally, thought might make that Bach concerto sound better. Needless to say, she chunked those dreams out the window. Thus began my pursuit of a more gypsy style, more into Bartok or V. Monti.. composers that gave me room to move.I kept up the classical training and played in the Beaufort Chamber Orchestra throughout high school. Also started broadening my horizons a bit by playing in a band, Holly on Methadone, and got more interested in improv, gigs and laid-back musicians and less into the stuffy classical world. However, I ended up studying Violin Performance and Music Composition at Converse College in SC, and played in the Converse Sinfonietta.Around about 5th or 6th grade, I started getting interested in the guitar. After listening to dad's records of Jim Croce, Jimmy Rogers, The Kingston Trio, Bob Dylan, Cat Stevens, Tony Rice, Emmy Lou, daddy taught me a few chords on the guitar and I loved it.At some point in jr high I decided that I was going to take the world by storm.I started writing music, and thus began my simple career (although it seems much more like free therapy for me) as a song writer. Getting into the piano changed my world. I love playing, and would play all day if I could. Beethoven and Chopin are my favorites, although I love Satie and I love Mozart. And Mendelssohn. But mostly Chopin. He brings me to my knees.I've played in trios, quartets, jazz groups, bluegrass jams, ten zillion weddings, funerals, you name it, I've done it.Currently, I am teaching violin and some guitar, and have a small business called Joyful Noise that teaches basic music to 3 and 4 year olds.I play bass for Mr Richard (as a trio, we are the Pound Hounds) and LOVE it. Never have had as much fun as playing to a room full of little kiddos, shakin their groove things. WAY too much fun. I am very lucky to be involved with Richard and Rick.I still hope to get out there and do something more. It's out there, I just need to find it. I married a sound engineer and music producer, and it is nice to be in a music-lovin family.Be it violin/fiddle, guitar, bass, piano or vocals, I am always looking for people to jam with, so bring it on, Orlando. I am ready for ya!

Influences: I am influenced by passion and by talent. By good lyrics, or by good pickin. I am constantly influenced by my students that show me that they can do whatever they put their mind to.
