Cod Lovers

The band formed in late –88 in Norrköping, a seaport city of Sweden, following a Christmas party gig at the Rockslottet, the leading local rock club at that time. The response was so overwhelming that the lads decided to go on with it. After a few more explosive gigs they soon gained the interest of their friend Ola Hermanson and his record label Ceilidh Productions. The single Best Friend was released, media coverage was soaring and the band played the Hultsfred festival in 1990. In the winter of that year, the album French Plums came out. Quite a lot of gigs and summer festivals followed, and after these shows, the lads sometimes celebrated a bit too much. Soon they got labelled “the most post-intoxicated band in town.” Indeed, some of the members did their best to live up to the least endearing clichés of rock stardom.Anyway, plans were made for a second album. There were just a few songs left to be written before the studio sessions could commence. Due to the impatience of certain band members they made a jump to A West Side Fabrication, and the album was produced under the auspices of that label. Micke Herrström, who had done a great job with the first album, made the mixing and the ensuing Pretty Things emerged in the spring of –92. The band continued with some gigs and, after a cancelled tour in Spain, they ended up in Riga, Latvia, for two gigs. Some new songs were written and demos made but the lads now felt the energy was gone and plans for a third album were aborted. Six years after their glorious beginnings at Yule-tide, they gallantly disbanded, after a final awesome show at a Christmas party.Band members have continued with other musical projects, and to this date two reunions have occurred – the latest show with the original line-up in the winter of 2004 was a great success.
