The Blue Ape

We’re arogant. Some of us are blue.

About Me

This band has first seen the sunlight on the Grammar school in Hranice in 2002. The purpose of the band was to let off the steam of a few pseudomusicians from one class. The very first genre the musicians paid attention was punkjazzfolk and rehearsals were from 06:30 to 08:05 in the class for music lessons. That's how it came that the first involuntary fans became the janitor with his dog.
During the next three years of heavy psychodelity the band went through many changes, there were as many new members as new genres (reggae, ska, jazzrock, pop) and a few concerts took place. These concerts surely destroyed the illusions of Hranice’s inhabitans about the manners of the students from the local grammar school.
The great turn for The Blue Ape came after most of the members finished the period of the hardest pubescence. The band moved to a new rehearsal room in the basement of the well-known fitness-center. There was no other way than to start playing FUNK (with a little bit of Disco and Dancehall). Everybody started to get to know what it is about and how to play it at all. None of us knows it today but it is funkier that way. Our non-critically admired idols became the bands like Cameo, Kool & The Gang, James Brown, Monkey Business, J.A.R. and many of us are reggae and dancehall addicted and the others adore hip-hop. Jazz is essential mainly for new members as well.
It came to many personal changes during the three years of exploring funk. Ritchie (Trombone) was joined by stable saxophonist Pospa and the horn section became horn section finally. Blackamoor, Turk and Carl - The Grooving Heart was joined by the second guitarist Toncek. The show is the thing of the singer, Slim George takes care of it very well. There might be some guesting keyboards of Mr.Kayaman as well. The band started to throw concerts in autumn 2006 (well, very slowly).
The CD King Kong was recorded during the autumn 2007. It lasts 30 minutes, contains 7 songs and costs 100,- Czech Crowns.
