About Me

G-Tech NYC Representative/Sound Traveler. DJ/MC George Rontiris-aka G-Tech, aka Flowdeep-is deeply rooted in the urban sounds of these New York streets, but always had his head in the clouds, elevated. George Rontiris picked up his first set of Technics in his early twenties, and spent seven days a week for the next three years practicing turntable mathematics. What always set him apart from other NYC DJs was his selection of vinyl. Cats on the scene were blown away by his forward-thinking sensibility-pumping minimal techno way before Kompakt was a household name, lacing a new Chain Reaction record over an ill trip-hop beat to make cats rethink the definition of ambient, juxtaposing Wu with a deep-and-slow style techno beat to reveal a similar soul, getting elegant with butter basslines for his regular NYC lounge gigs. Stemming from a time when true music connoisseurs moved like a secret society through the streets, his mixes have echoed in many haunts from Stockholm to Barcelona, Amsterdam to Miami, Greece to Montreal. Shifting from electronic music to hip-hop and back, the Queens-bred DJ/MC channels energy from a spectrum of future music and expresses himself in a new world hybrid sound. As displayed in his rhymes, Rontiris wanders within a very visual-almost cinematic-high-tech sci-fi realm. Perhaps this explains the ease with which he trades caps from underground MC-with collaborations in progress with Vordul Mega of Cannibal Ox-to globetrotting next-level tech DJ. "I'm ultimately an old-school cat with brand new boots," he says. Always on that next beat, onto that next sound. It is reflected in his discography as well as the crew he keeps. His vocals were first pressed to wax in 1998 over a Alexi Delano and Cari Lekebusch collaboration, "Place of Birth," released on the now infamous Primevil Records. Since then, he has gone on to work extensively with both Lekebusch and Delano. He has recorded six tracks with Lekebusch, most notably for H-Productions ("Steady Motion," which was also remixed by Adam Bayer, and "Yahs Cosmic Eggbasket"), Mekanixc Records ("Escape"), and Mosaic Records ("Warrior Dub"). Rontiris will be featured on two tracks from the upcoming Alexi Delano full-length, Stories of an Alien Brother. Previous projects with Delano were released on the sleek Plastic City Records. Rontiris has also collaborated with Adam Bayer, Hakan Linbo, David Rosyx (Bitmaster), Abbie Lurnburg, Erik Pritz, the Dukes of Sluca, and Kwaku Owusu. Rontiris' sound defies a ready-made genre or label. He makes it clear that his style is the envelopment of all styles-similar to the Taoist philosophy he learned in Jeet Kwan Du, the school of martial arts founded by the great Bruce Lee. Like an artist reluctant to settle for the standard palette, George Rontiris pulls from many sources and paints a clear picture of his mindstate. Can you relate?
