About Me

I'm a harp player from Dublin. I have been playing since the age of ten and first studied harp with my grandmother in Dublin. I then went to to the USA and studied concert harp with a wonderful lady called Leone Paulson. My first professional engagement was back in 1990 when I spent 6 months playing at the Irish Exhibition at Expo 90 in Osaka, Japan. I released my first CD 'Barcó' in 2002. It features my brothers Fionán and Éamonn on guitar and flute and some of our own compositions as well as traditional and harpers' tunes. These days I live at home in Ireland and I tour a lot with different musicians and singers. I have been working with singer and actress Hazel O'Connor since 1998 when we went to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival with a show called Beyond Breaking Glass. I also play a lot of classical and traditional duets with harpist, Anne-Marie O'Farrell. We released 'Double Strung' our first duo CD in 2005.Since 2004, I have had the privilege of working with another wonderful singer from Ireland called Moya Brennan. She is the lead singer with the group Clannad and as well as touring with Moya I have had the chance to play with Clannad on a few occasions. We played the Olympia Theatre in Dublin as part of the St. Patrick's Festival in March 2007.Recent events: Concerts with Anne-Marie O'Farrell in Ireland and teaching on An Chúirt Chruitireachta in Tearmann Feichín, Co, Louth in June and Scoil Samhraidh Willy Clancy in Milltown Malbay, Co. Clare in July.Upcoming events: Various festivals in Ireland and the UK throughout August with Moya and Hazel and three harp and flute concerts in Ireland in September with Karin Leitner, with whom I recently recorded the CD 'Music of Great Irish Houses'I have some other stuff posted on my own website: www.cormacdebarra.com
