Bodega Bay, Northern Californian born..... Sweet offspring of an eccentric 60's hippie family. Father a local woodworker-musician, mother a sculptor still running a well known Sonoma County local artist Gallery. Maya spent her early days studying classical piano, sculpting, singing, and just being a fun loving beach girl. Regardless of already having carved herself an important role as a successful organic chemistry research scientist, she has finally decided to get back to what is natural for her. She has put aside this lucrative career to pursue her true love: music... A landscape of beautiful sandy beaches mixed with a steady diet of be-bop, folk, afro-latin, soul, blues & gospel music gave Maya the ingredients to create her own sound which resonates through a variety of genres. Mahalia Jackson, Bob Dylan, John Coltrane, Ricky Lee Jones, Tom Waits, Mamas & the Papas, Joni Mitchell, Dr. John, Monk & "Lady Day" were always coming out of the family stereo.
