Forged from the love of music this group of young people decided to undertake the challenge of becoming one of the top sound systems/ dj groups in the dc/va/md metro area. After getting started by purchasing equipment and fully cataloging their music collections, the 'sound' started out playing at house parties for friends and relatives. Soon more opportunities presented themselves as word spread that this 'sound' was quite talented and more than capable of not only playing at, but also energizing, any type of event.Having turned the opportunity to play at several university parties and events into smashing successes, things quickly picked up, especially after the 'sound' was crowned champion at Howard University CSA's first 'sound clash' in October of 2005. From there the sound played at HUCSA's annual Homecoming Party along with Renaissance Disco of JA and Radioactive Sound of T&T. While continuing to gain experience and knowledge of the craft, ‘black spider' continued to be hired for HUCSA events that year.
In January of 2006 'black spider' was contracted to play at an event with the world-renowned Jamaican sound, Stone Love. Thanks to an ability to satisfy diverse audiences, ‘black spider’ expanded its market and played at several local college fraternity and sorority parties including: Alpha Phi Alpha, Phi Beta Sigma, Omega Psi Phi, Delta Sigma Theta and Alpha Kappa Alpha.
The sound’s versatility became evident as they provided the vibe for the DC Carnival band Panisha, for their 2006 road presentation in the summer of 2006. ‘Black spider’ was also present at the Labor Day celebrations in NY in 2006. Providing the soundtrack to the “Bajan Invasion†party at the Base Night Club in BK, the sound provided entertainment alongside regional stars like Krosfyah, Rupee, Allison Hinds and Timmy.
By the spring of 2007 "black spider" was playing alongside the honorable Merry Perry of T&T, and that July the sound experienced another successful DC Carnival season playing for Panisha Mas on the road. To top off a groundbreaking summer the sound was invited to Bermuda to play for a beach bashment and officially became "international".
As the year 2007 comes to a close ‘black spider’ continues to strive to be the best. The sound is defined by a unique musical experience that draws on limitless musical genres in order to satisfy even the most discriminating audiences. Their goal at every event is to leave listeners amazed and satiated by the caliber of dj’ing that they were exposed to.Even the most avid supporters may be unaware that the mantle of ‘black spider’ encompasses a group of people and not just an individual. Although one person is recognized as the ‘face’ of the sound, there are other members who prefer to work in anonymity. Their contributions, while unknown by most, are nevertheless vital to the sound’s success. Due to personal preferences, however, these members shall not be named in this forum.
