About Me

Kennon B. Raines, a performance poet and an educator, says, "Give up your car and get off your cell phone! Take a hike in the canyon or march for world peace. Take the train. Ride your bike. Give peace and the planet a chance."Ms. Raines has appeared in stage productions on both coasts and in numerous independent films in Canada and the US. Since her move to Los Angeles, she's played a supporting role in Personal Vendetta, starring Timothy Bottoms and Mimi Lesseos, as well as having been featured in a series of independent productions. She has appeared in Stephen Frears's The Grifters and in music videos for Paula Abdul and Michael Moriarty (the latter of whom she studied acting with in NYC.) On stage in Los Angeles her most notable roles have been: Blanche Dubois in A Streetcar Named Desire; a Witch in Macbeth; a murderous maenad in The Bacchae; and Olive, the slob, in the female version of Neil Simon's The Odd Couple. In her latest independent film, "Screech of the Decapitated," she played a biker chic and a lady wrestler. Ms. Raines is an accomplished performance artist and performed her poetry in NYC nightclubs for six years before moving to LA. She was featured regularly at the Pyramid, in its heyday, and in the first 8 Wigstock* festivals. (*The campy, hilarious, drag queen extravaganza of Manhattan's Lower East Side) She staged a one-woman show at LaMama E.T.C. and performed at CBGB's, Danceteria, the Peppermint Lounge, King Tut's Wah Wah Hut, the World Stage, and The Tunnel, to name a few NYC venues. Kennon has performed her poetry at the Toronto Film Festival and in independent films in Montreal and LA. Other poetry appearances include London, UK; Paris, France; Boston, MA; Dallas, TX; and Atlanta, GA. She was a member of LA's first poetry slam team to San Francisco in '93. In 1994, Ms. Raines produced, directed, and performed in the Hollywood production, "The Naked Word," a theatrical evening of poetry. Presented in a 99-seat theatre, it featured poets ranging in age from 23 to 83, live music, and bared feelings on social, political, and spiritual themes.
