DjSmiddy or Graham Smith 33, wisely invested in his beloved Technics 1210mkII's in 1990. Just returned from an Audience with Graeme Park at the Hacienda, and put his already vast vinyl collection to good use.A massive fan of the underground house and techno music scene he learned his craft from frequenting just about every club in the UK, listening to the pioneers of the day. Sasha, Welly, David Morales and so on....Eventually the first break came and Smiddy got a residency at Moota until it was raided to closure. Hundreds travelled from Carlisle every Friday. He was performing in front of thousands at all day/all night raves alongside the likes of Nipper and SL2. DJing and clubbing around West Cumbria's legal and illegal Rave Scene was a story in itself.Ask a 33 year old clubber from Carlisle if they heard of him! Check yer promo of Lil Devious first track, thanks to DJSmiddy on the centre, yup that's him.Thru this came the mainstream break, and Smiddy found himself Resident at 'Legends' and 'The Pagoda' in Carlisle premiering the latest in funky house.Legends, mainly due to the crowd of people who came along, was amazing, and THE place to be on a Friday night. The only way to gain entry was to come the week before. The queues stretching onto the street towards Victoria Viaduct until 2:00 am. Everybody went!Up to that point, only Annabels and Fantasy had achieved such popularity in the underground scene. Respect to those clubs and the DJ's who stood on the ones and two's for the first time in Carlisle... Paul Thompson/Matt Bell/Mally Chung/Patrick Irwin and the man himself Annabels Resident Eddie Crawford. After these pioneering times the larger name Dj's were drawn in and Smiddy guest dj'd at the incredibly popular Fresh and Funky. Then through other work opportunities he moved to Leeds, Dj'd at too many student parties to mention and eventually settled down, married Nicola and became a dad.Well turntablism is DJSmiddy's first love. Each tune has a hundred memories. Mixing a wide range of styles in one set always leaves crowds up for it, leaving DJSmiddy impossible to pigeon hole.Ten years on DJSmiddy has returned to his home City of Carlisle. Older and wiser with a keener appreciation, the Dj turns to producer/composer. This space is the bench mark corner stone, where Dj transforms into Producer. Watch this space and watch him blossom. Love his music or not self taught and always learning he makes no excuses. All comments welcome, make his day, drop him a line!Peace.
