SOCIAL PARASITE

About Me

SOCIAL PARASITE was formed in 1992 by Joe D., Brad Day & Scott Kearnes. Partly as a reaction to the many death metal bands who seemed to take themselves a bit too seriously, SP sought to bring fun back into metal music by not following the rules of the restrictive death metal scene. Adding elements of stoner/doom metal to their thrash roots. The first song written specifically for the band, "Not Such Big Hand", a collaboration between Joe & Brad would exemplify everything the band were about, from the bottom heavy main riff to the simple chorus, to the dissonant bridge part & the un-characteristic jazz interlude ending with samples over it, this was a far cry from the members previous bands (Malstrom, Destructive Criticism, etc..) & instantly became its own animal within this song alone. After a few shows with the original line-up, Scott left, the 1992 self titled demo tape was done by Joe & Brad (Carumbo Studios) & it gathered 4 songs: "Not Such Big Hand", "Loss Of Self", "Landshark" & a re-recorded slower version of the Malstrom song "Hatred."The line-up of Kelly on bass & Crissy on vocals lasted for 1 show, before Chuck was brought in to fill the position. SP played shows relentlessly between 1993 & 1995 & recorded the Psychedelic Pharmacy EP in 1994.In late 1995, Brad left the band & was replaced by one Micah Sixx. Chuck departed soon after & was replaced by Dave Parr, the invigorated line-up took a more fun approach for the RAPED BY MISERY album in 1996, a diverse recording that featured heavy songs like "Raped By Misery" & "Lowlife" mixed with the mellow "Chinese Eyes" & the Elvis cover; "Suspicious Minds."Preceeding the release of SCUM GOD in 1998, ex-Dark Legions band-mate Steve, joined on bass for a one off showcase gig. Missy joined mid-'98 for the recording of SG & some gigs in OKC. The song "Nazi Graffiti" (with Missy on vocals) was written for a KISS-tribute vinyl EP released by Rocktober magazine in Chicago. The revolving door of bass players, then had Tyson taking the role for several years to follow. Gigs at the Samurai, Green Door, Conservatory, The Well & other venues followed. In 2003 after performing an a Christian venue (The Well) where an interview took place, there was a rather sensasionalist article printed in the Norman Transcript newspaper, which tended to focus on various lyrics, & described the lyrics as: being "Spat Out Like Acrid Flaming Pellets Of Damnation."By 2004, at least 3 new songs were prepared & recorded for the SICK SICK SICK EP, (which was reviewed in Metal Maniacs). The Songs "Heed Me", "Here Comes The Gun" & "Agony & Mutation" generally took a more brutal approach reverting back to technical thrash.A few months later, Joe D. entered the same studio with Danny (filling in temporarily) on drums for the SERPENT ASSASSIN EP, which included 2 versions of the title track & covers of Sabbath's "Paranoid" (nearly 10 minutes in length) & Ace Frehley's "Rip It Out".In the following 2 years a few songs were demoed at Norman's Muratic Studios, including the thrash/country oddity instrumental: "2 Bottles Of Fussy Pussy."
