Who is SLEATER BROCKMAN??
Born the first son of a nurse and an Australian history enthusist, Sleater Brockman (aka ANDREW LEVINS) has been DJing since he was 18. By 'DJing', I mean: 'Playing music at parties' and by 'music', I mean: 'Ween albums'.
But hey, that was 2003. So much has happened since then. For one, Ween haven't released any new records, and for two, Sleater Brockman (aka LEV DAWG) done taught himself how to DJ something good.
The year is now the future and Sleater Brockman (aka SLATE BRIGGITY) plays all kinds of neat jams at least three times a weekend. He would probably play more if there was no such thing as Monday.
Some reasonably okay things Sleater Brockman has done as a DJ is support good dudes like Diplo, Lady Sovereign, A-Trak, Spank Rock and DJ Mehdi. Also Cansei De Ser Sexy, Simian Mobile Disco, Girl Talk, Kid 606, Drop The Lime and The Liars. Oh, and Ratatat, Buck 65, Ghislain Poirier, DJ Gorky, The Crystal Method, In Flagranti, Nick Catchdubs and Chris Lemon-Red. That's a lot of good dudes.
As a fan of the outdoors, Sleater Brockman was honoured to play many Australian festivals, including Golden Plains, The Great Escape, Laneway Festival and the Come Together Festival. Assuring the indoors would not be upset or offended, he also enjoyed himself playing regularly at highly respected Sydney clubs including Modular Monthly, Bandits, Purple Sneakers, Rebel Rebel, Favela Rock, Click Click, Revolver, Hot Damn, Wamp Wamp, Bad Kids Recreation Club, Boobytrap, B*E*E*F and a tonne more.
Sleater Brockman is a member of Sydney DJ foursome Ro Sham Bo, who host a radio show every Tuesday evening from 6pm - 8pm on Sydney's FBi 94.5FM. Stream the show over at fbiradio.com. Sleater Brockman also DJ's for lo-fi r&b queen Catcall. And he manages Melbourne's only gospel trance act, Muscles.
Catch Sleater Brockman regularly at Wamp Wamp (returning to Thursdays in June at Club 77!!), Sydney's only night dedicated to crunk, hyphy, club and bass music; and Bad Kids Recreation Club (Saturdays at Bar Broadway), a sweaty mess of party jams and bad kids.
So, what are Sleater Brockman's plans for the future? Well, besides directing the sequel to DOOM (a musical comedy starring Tim Allen and Paul Fusco, the voice of Alf), he plans to record a half hour mix each month with his oldest friend Spruce Lee, free for public consumption. Way to go! Band Bio completed!!
