Clay Armor

Clay Armor consists of two Saginaw, MI emcees who hold the torch for true hip hop. J-dubZ and Hasspittable are the lyrical culprits responsible for their debut 2008 album "21st Century Dawn." "We spent over a year on the album," J-dubZ recalls. "We went through lost jobs, both moving and hundreds of beats." Their album, which is available through their MySpace page, is described by the duo as, "A bit of old and new, b-boy like Beastie Boys, but intelligent like KRS-ONE and relevant like Atmosphere and Dilated Peoples." With a motto of "rap - lies = hip hop," one could guess that Clay Armor is more about content than image. They don't have a hint of "ringtone rapper" in their bloodstream. The genuine sincerity of their flows comes through loud and clear on tracks like "Hard Times" - while other tunes like "Raised" oozes aggression, anger and drug use. Perhaps living in the economically depressed city of Saginaw is to blame for the darker side of Clay Armor. "I've never stepped in a pit of quicksand before," Hasspittable says about life in Sag-nasty, "but I'm pretty sure the two are similar."
