Hey lady, I WAS TALKIN' TO THE PIG!!

About Me

Have you ever eaten an apricot Kolacky? Throw a little Blue Bonnet margarine on there and man, you really got somethin'. ' ' Hi, my name is Al, and I have finally relented and activated a myspace page. Two years ago, I played some shows on guitar with the amazing Mark Mallman and the other band members convinced me that I just had to do this. Besides, I figure 948 million people can't be wrong. Yes, I play guitar. In addition to Mallman, I've spent the last 7 years playing with Minneapolis bands (in order) The Odd, Short Fuses, and Faux Jean. ' Playing guitar is neat. ' ' I work as a restaraunt barkeep and backstage caterer to live. I'm also trying to come up with an invention. Maybe something to help make the American housewife's life a little easier, like a modern day egg beater, or vegamatic or something''''' I Love kids. I think there's nothing more adorable than a baby who just learned how to walk. I love county fairs. I love the smell of freshly laid tar in the summertime. I love traveling. I love meeting people from other countries who speak better English than some of my friends. I love my siblings. I love my siblings' children. ' ' Ya wanna know what makes me so damn interesting? I once pulled a muscle in my leg taking a leak. Ya wanna know what makes me so damn UN-interesting? I really believe that pulling a muscle while taking a leak is interesting.I also love late night slices of pizza. I love whole pizzas too. I've NEVER met a pizza I didn't like. Never. Yes, even frozen Jenos. I love buffets. I could go to Las Vegas and just do nothing but eat at the buffets the entire time. Someday I will. I love all my memories of my childhood-even the traumatic ones. I love the feeling you get after working 16 hours a day, three days in a row. I love being able to play my guitar really loud at a show. I love when old people smile at me in passing. I love long train rides. I love taking long drives by myself with the radio off. I love sleeping with my windows open on a windy night. I love the program button on my coffee maker, and waking to the coffee maker before my alarm goes off. I love Marathon bars, Bubs Daddy bubble gum, marshmallow Peeps, and Whacky Wafers. When I was a kid, there was nothing more exciting than opening a pack of baseball cards. I think that the first person who put their chocolate bar in someone's jar of peanut butter was a friggin' genius. I love the memory of my dad spinning yarns about baseball players in lieu of reading me bedtime stories. I think that we really did learn everything we need in kindergarten.... except for how to drive, how to arrange a netflix queue, and understanding genetic contribution to behavioral patterns in females.... Speaking of females, I've never met a female Virgo that I didn't totally get along with, though for some reason I've dated very few Virgos ...... Ok, ...(ahem)...Hate. What do I hate? I hate dishonesty. I hate college students who haven't evolved past the 8th grade. I hate shit-hop music. I hate the fact that so many people respond to sincerity like it's some sort of disease. I hate the fact that every time I travel alone I always end up wishing someone was with me. I hate how cell phones have turned 75% of the population into idiots. I hate the Chicago White Sox. '' ' Oh, and I hate myself for loving you..... ' '' ' 'Up until about six months ago, nobody poked more fun at MySpace than me. Now, I routinely find myself scrolling along my friends and realize that the only person "online now" is me. Is this a blog? I still don't know what the hell a blog is. It's a stupid sounding word. I do know that.

My Interests

Baseball, my family, pizza, rock and roll. These are my addictions-in no particular order......

I'd like to meet:

The kid that stole my autographed Mickey Mouse watch in 4th grade.

Music:

Paul Anka and Jay Ferguson. Everyone else can go to hell.

Movies:

Phantom Of The Paradise, Brian de Palma's directorial masterpiece(?), will always be my all-time favorite. Saw it when I was 11. It changed my life forever(!) I suppose the rest of the list would go something like this: American Grafitti, Westworld, Young Frankenstein, They Call Me Trinity, Trinity Is My Name, Macon County Line, Groove Tube, Logan's Run, Duel, Carnal Knowledge, Catch 22, every single Marx Brothers movie, It's A Wonderful Life, The Shipping News (has Kevin Spacey ever been in a bad movie?), Billy Jack, The Shining, Strange Brew,Lords Of Flatbush, David Lee Roth,(is anyone actually reading this?), In Cold Blood, Harold and Maude, Sleeper, Bananas, Everything You Always Wanted To Know About SSSSSS..... Dirty Mary, And Crazy Larry, White Line Fever, Halloween, The Jerk, Body Heat, The Thing (1982), Full Metal Jacket, Fish Called Wanda, Drugstore Cowboy, Race With The Devil, Pink Panther (all), Ed Wood, The Player, Best In Show, Waiting For Guffman, A Mighty Wind, Spinal Tap, The Last Seduction, Usual Suspects, Charlotte's Web, The Boy Who Drank Too Much, Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels, Thank You For Smoking, Rushmore, Napoleon Dynomite, Being John Malkovich, Detroit Rock City, Reversal Of Fortune, Noferatu, ........ and the other 1267 movies that I've seen that I didn't walk out of...

Television:

Is my favorite band from the 70's...... I spent my whole childhood watching TV (when I wasn't mowing the lawn) and I was pretty darn influenced by it-don't mind admitting that at all. ' ' Ok, TV.... Dr. Katz is my favorite show ever. Did you know that TOM SNYDER was co-creator? Just 'cause of that, Tomorrow Show is my second favorite. Others... Don Kirschner's Rock Concert, Midnight Special, H.R. Pufnstuf, Timmy and Lassie, anything by Norman Lear, Sherwood Schwartz(even though he created the Peter Brady character after my brother Dan), Rod Serling, LET'S BOWL! (I was a contestant on the the highest rated episode of Let's Bowl it's first season on Comedy Central. Nobody has asked me to go bowling since-perhaps 'cause I lost the match) I also loved watching The Monkees, Flintstones, Gilligan's Island, Reno 911, Mickey Mouse Club (the 50's version, not the one with Paris Hilton, or whoever) I thought The Carol Burnette Show was hilarious, Soap, Warner Brothers cartoons, Casey Jones, Harlem Globetrotters cartoon, game shows like Match Game, Gambit, Magnificant Marble Machine, Joker's Wild, Concentration (I dominated on the home version) so forth, so on...you know, same shit as everybody...

Books:

Books? Oh, BOOKS! right right... Beezus and Ramona, by Beverly Cleary. Boy, that Henry Huggins, what a bastard he was, huh? I also read every Kiss book, every Rand McNally World Atlas I can get my hands on, oh, and also Charles Schulz' "There Goes The Shutout" ' ' ' ' If you can find a thread running through all that, then you're a better person than I.

Heroes:

Is my favorite Bowie record.... But seriously, folks....I have two heroes. Period. Mom and Dad. Greatest people ever.

My Blog

Why a duck? Sister, youll never understand.

Why the hell a duck?   When I was a sixth grade student at St. Wenceslaus in New Prague, my favorite book was called "Why A Duck?"  It was wonderful reading- crammed full of dialo...

My policy on "Top Friends"

It seems to me that most people use their "Top Friends" list as a sort of ranking system.  Some will display them in order of length of aquaintence, level of friendship, or family-first hierarchy...

Vomacka

For years, the word Vomacka meant nothing more to me than a mildly sexist moniker given to the female gender in the movie Clockwork Orange.  That all changed for me on Thanksgiving...
