In the spring of 2004 Roy and I thought we had better re-release the Red Beat song material to celebrate the 25th year of the bands formation. I put it all together on my Mac, the photographs from the early days in Ladbroke Grove and the gigs we played in and around London. The digitization of the songs and the licensing for the 1980 John Peel Session from the BBC. The official release date was the 17th of December 2004. Original line-up consisted of three of the four JONES BROTHERS Roy Jones - Lead Vocal, Paul "Drumologist" Jones - Drums/Vocals, Martin Jones - Lead Guitar and Majid Ahmed - Bass Guitar. The first 12" EP (MD 4.40) was recorded at Gooseberry Studios, Soho, London - Artwork by Mike Coles - Engineered by Mark Lusardi and released on Malicious Damage Records, Portland Road, Holland Park, London.Having played gigs at The Nags Head and Wycombe Town Hall with Joy Division. The band moved from High Wycombe to Notting Hill and there was a change of line-up. Kevin Mann came in on Guitar and Chris Thompson got the Bassman job. The Legendary Red Beat BBC Radio 1 John Peel Session was recorded in December 1980 at Portland Place Studios, Near BBC Broadcasting House. Red Beat played gigs all over London and the U.K. Venues like; The Marquee, The Lyceum, The Moonlight Club, The Venue, The ICA, Heaven, Hammersmith Palace, The Acklam Hall, Reading University, Leeds University, Liverpool Erics, Brighton Polytechnic, Oxford Polytechnic etc. Playing headline and support concerts with U2, killing Joke, Elder Brother Howard Jones, The Thompson Twins, Angelic Upstarts, The Cramps, The Meteors, Captain Sensible, Big Country etc.Infuenced by Steely Dan, XTC, Killing Joke, P.I.L., Bauhaus, Gen X, Scientist - Red Beat were very much at the cutting edge of the Second Wave of Tribal New Wave Alternative Rock Bands emerging out of West London in the Early Eighties.Two more singles were released on the bands own label Manic Machine Products with distro through Geoff Travis at Rough Trade Records, Ladbroke Grove, London.See/Survival 7" Single (RB 002) was recorded at Matrix Studios, London - Artwork by Wadsworth, Keates, Westmore - Engineered by Reno and Produced by Red Beat.Dream/Dream Dub 12" Mega Mix Single (RB 003) was recorded at Mark Angelo Recording Studios - Artwork by Andy Wadsworth - Engineered by Mark Lusardi.In 1982 the band went into IRS Studios, Kensington to record demo songs for IRS Records at the request of Miles Copeland (manager of Sting, The Police, The Bangles, Jools Holland, The Alarm etc.) The band recorded songs at his studio in Kensington Park Road, London.Red Beat experienced a metamorphosis around 1982/3 playing gigs as "Wheel of Change" and "Red White and Phoenix". A demo recording for Stiff Records was conducted in London the year 1983. In 1984 with manager Jim Aichroth "Red White and Phoenix" signed a deal with Ralph Seagull's Munich based "Zip" label part of Jupiter Records GMBH. Live Radio Interviews and Interviews with Bravo Magazine were conducted in Munich along with Photo Sessions and TV. The band video for the song "Power Reflex" was recorded for the "Formel Eins" TV Show at the Bavaria Film Studios in November 1984. Red White and Phoenix song "Power reflex" was televised to Germany, Austria and Switzerland.Elder brother Howard Jones signed a 5 Album deal with WEA in 1983.Guitar Player on the first Red Beat 12" Single and fellow sibling Martin Jones toured extensively in the USA and the rest of the world with Howard. Roy also toured extensively with Howard in the 80's.Paul gigged on the drums with various bands in the 80's and 90's. Bands like General Seven, No Mean City, After Dark, Precious Few and Ysbryd with a live recording for BBC Radio Cymru. Headlining/Support concerts performed at the Camden Palace, The Mean Fiddler, Civic Centre Aylesbury and playing the Summer Ball Concert for SUN MICROSYSTEMS. In 1998 Paul "DRUMOLOGIST" Jones started teaching the drumset with his teaching school DRUMOLOGY based in High Wycombe, Bucks.In 2003 the Hamburg Based German Label "Select Cuts" released the Album "Wild Dub" with tracks from Gen X, Killing Joke, PIL, The Slits, The Clash, Grace Jones, SLF and Red Beat.December 2004 was the birth of an artistic renaissance for Red Beat with the release of "The Missing Album". All the singles, the Peel Session and one previously unreleased song "Shadow Boxing" digitally remastered and now available as an 11 track audio CD.
