About Me

Currently I'm hiking home to Georgia on the Appalachian Trail and will be home in December. You can share my hike and follow along by signing up for my newsletter at www.thetrailhome.com.
It is fun to stray off the beaten path.
I’d rather go to a locally owned restaurant than a chain restaurant. Give me a candlelight dinner at “Pappa Rizo’s” rather than at the “Olive Garden” any day.Liberal friends think I’m “too conservative” and conservative friends see me as “too liberal.” Half the fun in life is learning something new or listening to people’s stories.
There is nothing more fun than to laugh with friends or enjoy late night conversations. I can be persuaded to stay home but I’d rather be out and about. The louder the thunderstorms or cozier the fireplaces, the better.
Every year I try to master something new. This has led to fencing, ice hockey, ballroom dancing, and boxing.
I buy and own too many books for my own good. It is hard for me to get rid of them. I love to read and enjoy books that inspire, challenge, and give insight.
My lifestyle is minimalistic. I like to stay flexible, mobile and and ready to travel. Love to hike outdoors, climb mountains, splash at the beach and enjoy challenges.

My Interests

The people you meet, the places you go and the books you read is what makes life interesting. After a year of not being allowed to take photos, I am having fun getting back into photography. I'm enjoying learning new artistic tips or talking shop.

I'd like to meet:

You can't have too many friends or accomplices to share trouble, adventure or just goof off with.
Nothing catches my attention like someone who is witty, enthusiastic, creative, insightful, wise and laughs often.
Having returned from spending a year in a combat zone, I'm looking forward to meeting new friends and having fun.

Music:

Especially enjoy listening to live music and new bands. The smaller the venue the better. My music is eclectic and I enjoy a wide variety. Currently, I'm having fun listening to 30 Seconds to Mars, Paramour, Radio Head, Band of Horses, Casting Crowns, I Hate Kate and a few other new groups I've discovered.
When my iPod is not plugged in to my car, I button hop on the radio to find good songs and avoid the annoying commercials and inane, babbling.
It surprises me more people don't listen to David Wilcox out of Asheville, NC area, he's an awesome acoustic guitarist with insightful songs. My endlist list of bands include: Adema, Evanescence, Linkin Park, The Killers, Newsboys, Green Day, AC/DC, Jewel, REM, Aerosmith, Louie Armstrong, The Smiths, Garbage, assorted country artists, Celtic, Enya, etc....

Movies:

You gotta love cool special effects and adventure...and I guess a little meaning, depth or allegory doesn't hurt either. And any movie that makes you laugh until your stomach hurts.
Favorite movies include: Braveheart, Lord of the Rings, Star Wars (I like the first/older ones better, IV, V, VI), Chronicles of Narnia, Office Space, Cassablanca, Gone with the Wind and Old Yeller.

Television:

I'd rather be out doing than watching so I spend my time laughing, making money, playing, dancing, and exploring when I can than watching t.v..
From iTunes I like to download and watch "The Office" and "Scrubs." The Internet keeps me up-to-date with current events and my friends up me tuned-in on everything else.

Books:

Nothing like a good book! Especially on a cold gray, rainy day curled up next to a crackling fireplace on a couch that swallows you whole.
I'm voracious reader with 2-3 books going at one time, mostly non-fiction, biographies, or books with cool pictures. Like laughing at Dilbert, and the Far Side. Biographies are great because you can learn from other peoples mistakes and achievements. Just finished the Chronicles of Narnia.
Often I can be found listening to audiobooks on my iPod while creeping along in traffic, running on the treadmill, or walking on the greenway.
Sometimes, just for fun, I'll pick out an author, like C.S. Lewis, and read all his books...in chronological order...yeah, I know...it is kinda wild but I like to live on the edge.
Some all time favorites are: Green Eggs and Ham, Where the Wild Things Are, Wild at Heart, The Tale of the Three Trees and the Velvetine Rabbit.

Heroes:

Warren Buffet, Alan Greenspan, Speed Racer.
