The OCV is comprised of citizens concerned with protecting their families, homes, and communities while safeguarding liberty. Historically, groups similar to the OCV were called and acted as â€œmilitiaâ€, i.e., volunteer citizen soldiers not connected with the regular military unless called into actual service, but nevertheless skillfully and artfully trained, disciplined, and well-ordered. They primarily concerned themselves with localized defense of hearth and home, but from time to time were called into service by the governing authority for the common defense of the land. They operated under rules governing efficient operations in the field and had their own command chosen from the members.As such, the OCV exists to help all citizens of Oakland County, Michigan perform their constitutionally recognized duty in supporting, upholding, and defending the Constitution for the United States, and the Constitution for the State of Michigan.The OCV is a self-governing autonomous member of the Southeast Michigan Volunteer Militia and recognizes all certifications or positions held within that organization.
