Sublime, anthemic pop at its best......

About Me

The Kosmos were formed in 2005, and are based in London, England. They have developed their own unique style of 60s inspired indie-pop that has seen them labelled as 'The Most Popular Unsigned Band On Myspace'. Their first single 'So in love', released via AWAL (Artists Without A Label), has been called 'The Ultimate Pop Song' by Recordsmith, a reknowned music reviewer, and the song has been hailed as a modern classic with its Beatle-esque, rich harmonies.Andrew Crayford is the Kosmos's songwriter, having started writing songs at the tender age of 11! His range of songs is quite remarkable, and fuses many styles that include indie, folk, pop and psychedelic rock. Andrew states that he has been influenced by everything from The Sex Pistols to the Carpenters, and was inspired by bands like The Jam, The Beatles, The Kinks and the Doors to be a musician and songwriter .'I want to make music that moves people on a deep emotional level, but is also timeless.' 'So in Love' is a classic pop track, and could have been written in the 50s or 60s. Its one of those songs you think you've heard before, it has that instant familiarity quality to it. I love the new bands like the Arctic Monkeys, but I don't think music has to be played at breakneck speed to have intensity. 'Silent Body Language' is a very powerful song that has drama, intensity and emotion, and there are not many songwriters around that can write like that anymore.' 'Comedown' is a raw angry swipe at the superficiality that pervades all around in the media, and directed at the pretentious posers who perpetuate it. 'Deluded' is Andrew Crayford's honest examination of his own pretensions, and says that we all have to check ourselves before we start on others. The song has been likened to The Ramones, and shows the indie/garage rawness to his song-writing and production skills. 'Save me' portrays the universal anguish of feeling alienated and marginalised, that shows Andrew Crayford at his most honest. He says that this period of his life was the most painful, though artistically creative. 'Its a fine line to tread when you know you are writing great songs, but your personal life is in total meltdown'. 'I always say that you should always write with sincerity, because sincerity is timeless and universal.'The band have been likened to many such as Nick Drake (70s singer/songwriter), with songs like 'In Your Eyes', which has a sublime, ethereal quality that folk afficionados have been amazed by. 'Start Again' is yet another beautiful and timeless song, and Andrew Crayford's voice has a rich depth that has been likened to David Bowie and Cat Stevens. 'God Of Gasoline' is Andrew Crayford's poetic socio-political swipe at the American dream, and western interference in the middle East in the pursuit of oil. 'Not many bands have any political views these days, or are not allowed to express them by their record companies for fear of it affecting record sales' says Andrew. All in all, The Kosmos are a rare breed, managing to combine the thought-provoking and moving lyricism of Andrew Crayford, the melodic intertwinings of Jonathan Armstrong and Dave Carmichael, and the rhythmical drive of Toryn Westcott and Roy Phillips to create the most moving songs you will hear this year. With songs like 'Save Me' and 'Silent Body Language' they will surely become the most influential band since The Verve, Oasis and The Stone Roses.'Unplugged' cd of 5 songs available now on Itunes.
