Norwegians met on airplanes (one in particular), organic goat farms (grew up on one), crazy Latin American cities, riding on camels across the desert with Ignacio Contreras (aka Nacho Taco), life’s coincidences, iced Pacha Latte’s on a hot summer’s day, speaking Spanish, backpaking, palta, a contagious laugh, grape picking, Evita Peron, desert colors, wine, visiting Kate and Walid in the mountains, standing on clouds, snowboarding, metros, good old fashioned handwritten letters, honey (especially from my beekeeping British Auntie Maggie), a tango beat, people watching, decedent brunches prepared by Paul, springtime blooms, mermaids, snowboarding, sandboarding, attempting to surf in the wind with Pancha, and bubble tea.
I would like to stay in touch with friends who are scattered across the country and tucked in obscure corners of the world. Maybe I can meet some people from the law school outside of an academic environment. I also hope to also meet friends of friends…there is an expression in Spanish “El mundo es un panuelo†(“The world is a handkerchief") and life’s twists and turns and random connections never cease to amaze me.
Music: Manu Chao, Arcade Fire, Gotan Project, Air, Postal Service, Ghostland Observatory, Modest Mouse, Thievery Corporation, Amadou & Mariam (a talented blind couple discovered by Manu Chao), Morcheeba, many of the bands that play on 6th Street (I miss Austin), Kevin Johanson, Lhasa, Wilco, and Radiohead. Allison Behrends makes great mix CDs.
Anything by Pedro Almodovar, Amelie, City of God, Carandiru, The Constant Gardener, Amores Perros, Kill Bill, Garden State, Requiem for a Dream, Vanilla Sky, Run Lola Run, Eternal Sunshine of a Spotless mind, Go, Magnolia, Maria Full of Grace, Little Miss Sunshine, Sideways, Love Actually.
Authors Gabriel Garcia Marquez (100 years of solitude is my favorite), Pablo Neruda, Jorge Luis Borges, and Lisa Antler (Kinflicks is a great one). I have also enjoyed the Kite Runner, Blindness and Life of Pi. I would like to read all books that have won the Nobel Prize, but I haven’t gotten very far because I spend hours of reading casebooks instead…having no free time to read what you want is one thing I dislike about being a student.
My parents. I am proud to say that my Mom is a breast cancer survivor.
