Ras Tonto was born the 8th of September 1973 in Sekondi, the capital of the Western Region of Ghana. He started his early school in Komenda and 1983 he moved with his family to Accra, the capital of Ghana. In 1987 he joined his first band called “Fire Lions Band”. In the year between 1992 and 1995 Ras Tonto was playing with bands like “Root of David Band” and “Mystic Youth” doing both rhythm guitar, base, drums and vocals. In 1994 Ras Tonto formed a band called “A C E” (African, Carribean, Ethiopian Band), to back solo artists such as Bingi Noa from the “Noa House Band”, Borky Marshall and JAH Marcus, all of them artists from Jamaica based in England. They also backed Pillar Hard, an artist from Nigeria and Teddy Guy from Ghana just to mention few of them. In 1997 Ras Tonto, together with some musicians from the neighbourhood, formed a group called “Rankin Crew” and in 2001 he and some friends put up another band “All Stars Band” with which he did many tours and shows.2004 Razo Productions took Ras Tonto to the studio to do an album with the technical producer Maxi Dread and alongside with “All Stars Band”. The inadequate finance forced them to record the whole album within ten days, which they managed to do. Six months later the company closed down and they sent him back all the material of the productions. In 2005 he did his own publishing and released the album called “Reaction”. Some of the songs became big hits in Ghana which gave him a lot of shows and tours, one of the biggest was Panafest 2005 and also the tour with Daddy Root from the carribean island Anguela.In February 2006 the Rita & Bob Marley Foundation organized African Unite Concert on the 61st birthday celebration of Robert Nestor Marley in Kumasi and Accra. Ras Tonto was among the few reggae and hiplife artists from Ghana that they invited to play the shows, together with international artists like Culture, Steel Pulse, I Threes, C Sharp Band, Dean Frazer, Chackademus and Pliers, The Tamlins, Bongo Herman and the Marley..s (Damian, Stephen, Julian and Kymani).In February 27th 2006 the ruling party of Ghana made a big Thanksgiving nite for the youth party in the Tertiary Institutions of Ghana TESCON. Ras Tonto was called to play for the president of Ghana and the youth party at the International Conference Centre in Accra, together with other top artists in Ghana. In addition to this he made many more tours and shows that and the following year. One of them was Ghana..s 50 years independent celebration in September 2007.Aside the music Ras Tonto has been involved in many NGO..s (Non Governmental Organizations) and he has also been working with the MRF (Musiga Reggae Foundation) a branch of the Musician Union of Ghana, MUSGA. In 2006 Ras Tonto set up his own NGO called Ababba Foundation, which do health environmental human rights advocacy. In May 2007 he and a sponsored walker, Richard Mosiah Ababba Allen, did 1186 km walking from Sandama Upper East of Ghana down to Accra on the south coast within 13 days, to advocate a tuberculosis and HIV campaign. In December 2007 Ras Tonto moved to Sweden to continue his musical career.
