About Me

»-(¯`v´¯)-» mostly water «-(¯`v´¯)-«

My Interests

permaculture, playing with and teaching kids, making and listening to music, language, travel, the natural world, dancing, singing, peace: internal and external.

I'd like to meet:

my great-great-grandma, Josie Sheets, and my great-grandma, Natividad Naranjo.

Music:

Every time Wilco comes on the random rotation, I feel good. This also holds true for Radiohead, Smog, Iron and Wine, Neutral Milk Hotel, Alison Krauss, Maria Taylor, Belle and Sebastian, Or the Whale, and a handful of others.

Movies:

Not so into it (although I recently re-affirmed for myself my deep love of American Beauty. That is an amazing movie for many, many reasons). I know there's tons of quality film out there, I just tend to spend my time in other ways.

Television:

Haven't done it in so long...

Books:

Top choice of all time not to be surpassed by anything ever ever ever: Winnie-the-Pooh.Currently, Tending the Wild, Healing with Whole Foods, Sibley's Guide to Birds, Tom Brown's Field Guide to Wild Edible and Medicinal Plants (kicks ass). Also worth mentioning, Small Wonder by Barbara Kingsolver, Tortilla Flat by Steinbeck, Pay Attention for Goodness Sake by Sylvia Boorstein, Don't Think of an Elephant by George Lakoff, East of the Sun and West of the Moon by Mercer Mayer.

Heroes:

The deepest truest part of me and every person I've ever met.

I just love discovering where I live

When I came home I found a smashed robin egg at the front gate. I got on top of the fence and saw the nest in the wysteria from above. Robin sized alright, with one blue speckeld egg in it. No wonder ...

epiphany of the day

We experience discomfort, always a mental rejection of our current situation, so we try to change the situation to make the discomfort go away. But the more we try to fix it (with a better job, nicer ...

When your room is lit with candles, the full moon through the window makes more sense.

Try it.

Yesterday's lesson

Never EVER, even begin to lose your cool in the wilderness, even if you are lost. If you do, you do stupid shit like not noticing your backback is hanging open while you negotiate the coyote brush jun...

death

Probably the best part of the last three days for me: walking up a dirty San Francisco side street that smelled of urine, on my way to the first session of the Landmark Forum, I saw, motionless in its...

Anonymous History Hunters

He stood in the distance, a stooped black silhouette on a cold San Francisco baseball field. Scott and I were finding our way out, slowly meandering across the evenly-mowed grass. We passed about 20 f...
