After playing local venues in Portland, Oregon for two years, the Antecedents emerged from their cold, damp warehouse practice space and recorded their debut album, “Letters from Rome,†released in May, 2007. The album has received an enthusiastic response including local and national radio exposure. The Antecedents pride themselves on creating music that is diverse and distinct, and that tries to make sense of the insanity of the outside world. Their music can generally be categorized as literary pop-rock.
The band relies on well-crafted songs and a collaborative creative process to bring their ideas from concept to performance. The band members are all influenced by classic rock such as David Bowie, Elvis Costello, and the Beatles. Each member also brings a unique musical influence to the overall sound. Jazz influenced electric guitar, contemporary rock bass, classical violin and piano, and the Americana folk tradition all strongly influence the overall sound of the band. The Antecedents work with an ensemble of musicians for live performances. They value the community created by music and are also enthusiastically involved in their local and global community.
