"some days i'm an artist..other days i'm a poo-flinging monkey"

About Me

What can i possibly say about me that hasn't been said a hundred times before with passion, conviction, anger and expletives!!....*sigh*...i should have been a doctor.....but it didn't quite work out that way....I am mainly a designer, that designs products, produces and/or liscences them to be produced by a manufacturer or I manufacture them and market them on my own....but hey! my hand writing still sucks...just like a doctor's!!...I am an ex-toy designer of five and a half grueling years of working on everything from barbie to hot wheels, for heavy hitters like mattel and toy biz and every toy company in between....I am also an ex-employee of the bar/niteclub design realm, having designed (on my own) the Rock-a-tiki Lounge (now gone) in chicago and various other places that i did alot of work for while in the short employ of Hospitality Design Group, such as Entourage, the apartment bar, Exit and others. I am currently employed as a model maker, which basically entails building prototypes of other designers ideas, which can be a pain in the ass more often than not, but at least i have access to tons of design/model making equipment!! When i'm not coming up with fun product ideas of my own or spending "quality" time with my girlfriend...I make art. Having shown in a few galleries from coast to coast alongside many talented low-brow artists, I still manage to crank out some pieces here and there....You can view and purchase the products i designed over the years through my website at www.dskdesigns.com -you may even own some of my work already and not even know it!!

My Interests

.... I like building stuff, creative problem solving, reading, anything pop culture related, retro styles, hot-rod and custom cars, motorcycles, tiki, concerts, route 66, eastern philosopy/religion, low-brow art, collecting the artwork of other artists whose work i enjoy, hardware stores, power tools, laughing out loud, groovin' on life...you get the idea.

I'd like to meet:

Lookin to meet like-minded low-brow artists to trade/buy art or others into similiar art, interests and music, etc.....

Music:

okay, in no particular order of importance, i like all types of music. Surf, lounge, reggae, metal, 50's rockabilly and doo-wop, motown, ska, spagetti western film soundtracks, punk, grunge, jazz, music from old italian films of the 60's, 80's new wave, spy jazz, some blues, whatever....if it's got a good sound i like it. here's some bands, old &new, that i'm into: the cramps, damone, screaming trees, deadbolt, devo, gary numan, jim carroll, wall flowers, the volcanoes, candy skins, blue hawaiians, boss martians, the flashing lights, vandals, T.S.O.L., morphine, black uhuru, jimmy cliff, trip shakespeare, the torquays, tom waits, the tiki tones, notorius MSG, the spinners, Dave's true story, jonathan coulton, steeley dan, roky erickson, replacements, aqua velvets, big star, ravonettes, plimsouls, old 97's, gun club, jeffery lee pierce, nick cave, martin denny, Don tiki, robert drasnin, misfits, Los straightjackets, jellyfish, impala, sinatra, B-52's and the list goes on and on.....

Movies:

Any film noir, B-movie or sci-fi horror will do.....

Television:

not so much...mainly history channel, discovery channel or spike tv (MXC rules!!)......occasionally peppered with alittle serial killer profile , true crime or biography.

Books:

tom robbins, Dave barry, hunter s. thompson, bukowski, among others, for fun. Otherwise i don't really read for entertainment, but to learn something new or keep the ol' intellectual wheels greased, especially eastern philosophy/religion. Anything and everything by Alan watts or joseph campbell. brad warner 's recent "hardcore zen" or the even more recent "end of faith" by sam harris

Heroes:

Be your own hero!! Sure, we are often inspired by others, but ya gotta be able to stand on their shoulders and look further down the road......
