Eirene Cloma

I wouldn't have it any other way.

About Me

19 year-old Eirene Cloma is a local soul musician born and bred in North Vancouver. She has always been soulful and sensual when it comes to music....growing up listening to her parents collection full of endless soul ballads and retro singer-songwriters. Aside from a large musicianship and a passion for performing, Eirene is not your typical wannabe-pop sensation but isyour typical North VanCity youngster...cruising in her Cabriolet, zipping from block to block on her hipster 10 speed, strolling on VanCity's busy streets like no one's buisness, skimboarding, nude-beaching it, being with friends, dancing to good music at clubs, local indie shows, conoisseuring beer/wine/spirits, and being a domestic goddess.
At the sweet age of 10, Eirene started studying guitar and trained in all genres, focusing on classical, latin, and jazz. She discovered the genre of neo-soul when she received her soon-to-be beloved Remy Shand CD on her 15th birthday...and her ears were forever changed. By the bitter 16th, Eirene started writing and playing at a level beyond expected capability. This became more evident as her musical skills were well-applauded in high school. She continues to explore her gifts in school as a jazz studies student and aspires to research, write, and teach about the history of neo-soul.
Eirene has been performing as a solo artist since November 2007 at venues such as Zawa, Cafe Deux Soleils, Corpus Christi College, the Biltmore, Rhizome, and the Railway Club. Her coolest performance to-date has been at the Railway at a women's open mic hosted by local artists Bonnie Ste Croix and Kate Reid where, after performing one song, Kate asked the audience "So...who here thinks Eirene should quit school?" It must be Eirene's smooth & androgynous vocals, concrete lyrics, meticulous musicianship, and rookie presence which set her apart from other acoustic artists in the circuit.
In her own words, "What "soul" means to me is presented using classic folk/indie/jazz acoustic concepts for the universal palate...a way for everyone to enjoy and understand. I keep it down to earth by simply using voice and guitar. I don't feel the need for anything else since I incorporate the bass, rhythm, and harmony with fingerstyle playing and let emotions move and flow along with controlled vocals. I don't hide behind anything and never have. If you don't dig it, then don't listen. But if you are diggin it...just close your eyes, open your ears, and let me groove your mind."

Dearest friends,As you can see, I've posted a new song with 2 versions of it. And you're probably wondering, "This is so rhythmic...I like the drums in it!" But there are no drums, just acoustic guita...
